Lost Boys & Co... T he definition of "Stalking":  When two people take a romantic walk and only one knows about it.  (photo #1)  Two out of three people surveyed thought this was funny... H azy sun and 15 miles visibility.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 65.8 and the water is 68.2.   High tide is at 7:41am +3.7' and low tide will follow at 12:11pm +2.8'.  We have a SSW swell out of 192ยบ at 3.0' and it was 2' to 3' and trying.  South and west of Mexico there is tropical storm Lidia and she is moving north and west, possibly sending some waves through our swell window.  Leave the window open...  Don't be surprised if it rains over the next couple of days... W e have really great sunsets, but out sunrises can be just as spectacular ( photo credit:  Early Bird Pix ) F lying into Los Angeles from over the pole we scoped out the hole they're digging for the Rams new stadium.  We were slightly amazed that it looks

Lost Boys & Co... S o the Lost Boy Eclipse Chasers, South Bay Chapter gathered on the banks of the Payette River in Cascade, Idaho and managed to experience the whole show from the front row.  Photo #1 & #2 are from Ape Walti's rig as the sun was obscured in totality.  Our location was slated for 1:58:06 of totality and it was all of that.  #3 was also taken from Walti's camera as the sun popped and created the "diamond ring" phenomenon.  Through Little Warren's 8" reflector telescope you could see the dripping effect that the mountains and valleys on the moon create as it passes in front of the sun.  The next eclipse in the USA will be in 2024, but in two years there will be one in Chile and Argentina.  Start working on your Spanish... H azy sun this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the SW at 2.3kts and the sea surface was slightly bumped.  The air temperature was 64.9 and the water has dropped to 67.8.  Some warm weather on tap

Lost Boys & Co... H ere we are on the shore of Lake Payette watching third reef Davis Point getting ready to break...  Lots of fun stuff to do in McCall, ID but surfing is way down on the list... H azy and foggy this morning with almost 2 miles visibility.  Winds were light onshore by 2kts and the sea surface had a bit of bounce going on.  The air temperature was 65.0 and the water is 69.8.  Low tide was this morning at 8:03am +2.4' and high tide will be at 3pm +4.6'.  We have an oblique SSW swell out of 195ยบ at 3.3' and it was 2' and poor at most spots...  Jack the Urchin Grabber told us tomorrow will be the best day for weeks...  We're not sure if that's good or bad... JRS yelled "Duck!" and we almost missed this parade of a mom and her ducklings going across the street... G etting ready for the eclipse in Cascade, ID.  The combined efforts of Little Warren, Ape Walti, the Professor and Rico were responsible for the images you'll see over

Lost Boys & Co... O ne obsession...  Two years ago he had only a fleeting idea of what surfing was, now his car has more boards than Jack's.  Jetski's quiver looks like upstairs at ET's... C loudy this morning with 9 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore at 2.3kts and the sea surface smoothed out a bit.  The air temperature was 65.1 and the water is in the 67.1 range.  Low tide was at 9:28am +2.1' and high tide will be at 4:21pm +5.1'.  We have a weak west swell out of 265ยบ at 2.6' and it was barely 2' and breaking right on the sand...  As though he was proving some kind of obtuse point, the Professor broke a leash, apparently just to show it could be done... T hese things REALLY work (photo #2) .  Minutes after getting this thing, the Professor was lead straight to the cash register and literally hundreds of dollars...  AMAZING...  Nothing outside in the sand though... W e'd like to honor the late crane operator Victor "Sparky" Sparks...

Still Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... (photo #1)  Y ou have to look closely at this one.  When we heard the car start up, we didn't see anyone behind the drivers seat.  Upon closer inspection we discovered this plant behind the wheel, apparently making an escape...  What did we do?  We got out of the way... 6 miles visibility this morning under heavily overcast skies.  Winds were basically onshore by 5.3kts and the sea surface was lightly bumped.  The air temperature was 61.5 and the water is 66.7.  Low tide was at 8:19am +1.8' and high tide will be at 3:12pm +5.1'.  We have a west swell out of 260ยบ at 2.6' and the surf was 1' to 2' and poor to even poorer... Y ou might have scored one of these Keoni Boyd shirts (#2) at the ShockBoxx show of his artwork.  If you did, it was in black and white.  But if you're Suzi Paine, B&W just isn't gonna cut it...  Now everyone wants one... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Happy Birthday Morgan Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... H appy Birthday to our own Jah Morgan.  She was feted this morning by singing, chocolate cake and a soul arch ten toes on the nose.  A brilliant way to start your day, no matter how old you are... M eanwhile we have a bit of yesterday's wind swell and it's hazy sun and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light almost not blowing and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was cool early at 62.5 and the water was 69.3.  Low tide was at 5:40am 0.0' and high tide followed at 12:03pm +4.6'.  It's a 2' swell out of the SSW 200ยบ and it was 2' to 4' on most So. Bay beaches... L et me hear you balalaika ringing out...  The Professor, at present, knows only two balalaika tunes, which in truth is all he currently needs to know.  He missed the audition for the "Red Elvis's" but undaunted continues to practice...  He could have stuck with the ukulele, but noooo... H appy hour at the Mermaid this Friday at 5:30pm.  Okay, how many

Lost Boys & Co... O kay, you get your board, then the next step is to wax it.  Here we have (#1) Boomfwappa applying a coat of the finest "cabeza de parafina."  Very rare, perfect tack and performance oriented... H azy sun this morning with 7 miles visibility.  Winds wee a little to strong out of the SW by 3.9kts and the sea surface was bordering on a chop.  The air temp was 62.7 and the water is 68.2.  High tide was at 11:30am +4.5' and low tide will be at 4:48pm +1.8'.  We have a west swell out of 265ยบ at 3.3' and it was 3' to 4' with some thick, bumpy outsides...  Hoping it will clean up a bit maรฑana... A ccording to a Miss S. White there were dwarfs scattered all over the fairy garden in what appears to have been an early morning attack by a Godzilla-like creature...  We say Godzilla-like because we don't know exactly what Godzilla is...  Apparently only three dwarfs escaped.  Dopey, Bashful and Sneezy would like to that all of those who sent

Lost Boys & Co... O kay, so we're back and ready to embrace the palm tree culture, after immersing ourselves in the shadows of the big trees.  Photo #1 is the famous General Grant Sequoia.  It would take around 20 people holding hands to reach around it.  Stately and amazing we spent the better part of an hour taking this all in.  Earlier in the trip, down near the river at Road's End in King's Canyon, we saw this rattlesnake (photo #2) taking in a bit of shade.  Actually, we didn't see him right away, which was part of the problem.  In fact, Paul Young, who got there a bit before we did, tried to set his bag on top of said almost invisible rattler.  Then we all knew he was there.  Photo #2 is a bit fuzzy because we were shooting from out of range and maybe just a little shaky... C lear with 10 miles visibility this morning.  Wind was light onshore, less than 2kts and the sea surface has a light bump.  The air temperature was 61.0 and the water is 69.8 at the buo
