Full Moon Happy Anniversary Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... A pparently she likes old goats as well... O vercast this morning and less than 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the west by 2.3kts and the sea surface was a tad bumpy.  The air temp was 69.9˚ and the water was a delightful 70.5˚.  High tide was at 10:27am +4.6' and low tide will be at 3:39pm +1.5'.  We have a SSW swell out of 200˚ at 3.0' and it was 2' to 3' and some slippery little fun ones... H appy Hour at the Mermaid tonight at 5:30.  The Lifeguard Intercrew competition is also tonight, so get a front row seat and pick your favorite team... O vercast this morning with almost 10 miles visibility.  Winds were on from the start by 3.6kts and the sea surface was bumpy/funky.  The air temp was 67.3˚ and the water is 71.1˚ at the buoy.  High tide is at 9:16am +4.1' and low tide will be at 2:07pm +1.9'.  We have a SSW swell out of 203˚ at 3.6' and it was 2' to 3' with an occasional bigger wave... A friend of Robin Fenlon, Keala Kennelly managed to get towed into this yawning monster at Teahupoo.  Absolutely incredible, it kinda hits you in the pit of your stomach every time you look at it...  So we can imagine getting towed in, but how do you get out?  That looks like a problem of major proportions...  like getting washed over the reef, surviving the surge and not getting hit by a boat full of photogs... M ostly sunny this morning with 20 miles visibility.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 68.8˚ and the water was 72.0˚.  High tide was at 8:40am +3.8' and low tide will follow at 1:21pm +2.2'.  We have a SW swell out of 220˚ at 3.6' and it was 3' to 4' with some nice ones if your timing was on... R asta Pete is the apex Hermosa local.  He said he'd never seen so many people on the pier.  We concur.  So we walked out on the pier to see just who was out there...  We walked all the way out to the Mark Levy plaque and didn't recognize anyone.  So we turned around and about halfway back we ran into CoConut and we all embraced, afraid to let go less we lose each other.  Then we saw Bobby Warchola and Bob Thomas and decided we could make a run for it...  Those crossfit folks are scary... A t his palatial dacha on the Black Sea, we dined with Boris "Jetski" Vishnevsky.  A scrumptious meal of several courses the show stopper was pork chiliquilles with over easy eggs, on a bed of cheese and pork and tortilla chips roasted in pork oil...  LoLa and Taylor directed the preparation... O vercast this morning and you could see Catalina, but not the sun...  Winds were onshore by 3.0kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 70.0˚ and the water is 70.5˚.  Low tide was at 7:11am +0.9' and high tide was at 2:01pm +4.3'.  We have a SSW swell out of 203˚ at 3.0' and it's 1' to 2'.  Maybe later this week... L ethal Keithal, the Professor and Devin Bogart share a moment a couple of afternoons ago.  We've been trying to get Lethal back into the water, but you can lead him to water, but you can't make him surf.  Old Tony's is as close as we could get... A great day today as Clark the Meth Hunter put everything together and got something like 5 solid rides.  Jetski, returned to the surf and was making those steep drops, this time without stopping his stick with his head!  El Ché scored some long lefts but was challenged by Clarky who ended up his session with a ride that left him in the shadow of the pier.  It was lightly overcast with the sun trying to break through.  Visibility was 15 miles.  Winds were light out of the WSW and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 64.5˚ and the water is around 68.7˚.  All this sunshine can only help...  High tide is at 11:00am +4.3' and low tide will follow at 3:59pm +1.9'.  We have a SSW swell out of 210˚

T his is how things spin out of control...  It all started out with Jetski getting a fin to the left eyebrow.  This is going to make a great scar.  Four lifeguards pouring over his wounded melon, ice packs, yards of self sticking bandages, forms and waivers etc.  In no time we're at the plastic surgeon's .  Yes, no ordinary sutures for this boy.  But it's a plastic surgeon...  "Whaddya think Professor?  A "B" or a "C"?"  How about a C+?  ( Professor Doctor Titsling:  Modern Body Sculpting ) B eautiful morning with 20+ miles visibility and almost no clouds in sight.  Winds were light offshore at 3.2kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 66.5˚ and the water was a cool 66.0˚.  High tide was at 9:05am +4.0' and low tide will be at 1:55pm +1.9'.  We have a SSW swell out of 207˚ and it was 3.6' at the buoy and 3' to 4' and peakie at most spots.  One of the best mornings in recent months

R eligion.  It's given people hope in a world torn apart by religion.  John Stewart H ere we have E.T.'s Pat Ryan, with his most iconic shape, the Kingfish.  He was giving Boris some tips on the fin set-up and characteristics of the "Exotic Dragster Bottom." C loudy this morning with some odd raindrops falling on the parade.  7 miles visibility.  If you needed to see something 8 miles away you were out of luck.  Winds were on by 5.9kts early and then laid back mid-morning leaving a bit of slack and less chop.  The air temp was 65.5˚ and the water was 66.7˚ and coupled with the wind, left most folks in long rubber.  Low tide was at 10:03am +1.2' and high tide was late at 4:55pm +5.5'.  We had a SSW swell out of 206˚ at 3.6' and it was a critical 3' to 4' and dumped as the tide dropped.  Check it out mañana.  If the wind takes a break it could be good... G idget touching the toe of the Duke.  Must've had some luck there.  She rode some of the biggest waves of her career over the week she was in Hawaii! O vercast skies this morning with almost 5 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore, for a welcome change and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 64.5˚ and the water was 68.7˚, but the combination was a tad cool for a springer.  Low tide was at 8:08am +0.2' and high tide will be at 2:58pm +4.9'.  We have a SSW swell out of 212˚ at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3', but a bit crashy and certainly quick.  Maybe better with more water... M iloe and Bill Mason walking trudging up the hill from a session at a secret South Shore spot.  The day this photo was taken there were five people out.  The Fourth of July weekend there were 30 people!...  (Look at the peak, it's about head high...)  Some secret... N ot so deluxe here this morning.  Overcast skies with 6 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore at 2.3kts and the sea surface had that residual bump from last night's wind.  The air temperature was 63.3˚ and despite the overcast, the water is heating up to 68.7˚.  Low tide was at 7:19am -0.3' for the last am minus of the week and high tide will be at 2:02pm +4.7'.  We have a weak SSW swell out of 196˚ at 2.3' and it's half that on the sand.  1' and poor and we're hoping it's a bit taller mañana... Lost Boys & Co... S ince it's a special Saturday, we thought we'd send out an extra report just for the hell of it... O ne of the things we don't often see in California waters are sea turtles.  Over the years we've noticed that the numbers that you see in Mexico and Hawaii have increased!  Looks like the measures they've taken to stop the random killing of these magnificent animals is helping! O vercast, with 5 miles visibility.  Winds are out of the SW by 2.2kts and the sea surface is lightly rippled.  The air temp is 68.0˚ and the water is 64.2, driven down a bit by the winds yesterday.  Low tide was at 5:51am -1.0' and high tide will follow at 12:22pm +4.4'.  We have a SW swell out of 222˚ at 3.6' and it's a bit smaller than that, but should be getting better over the next few days. A lot of surfing involves checking it out.  Like this pic of Suzanne and Joey checking out Pipeline.  Not much going on this day, in fact Hermosa today looked better than Pipeline...  Of course it was June... W inds were onshore this morning by 5.2kts and there was only 5 miles visibility and overcast skies, but our crew braved the less than perfect conditions for a fun go-out.  The air temp was 71.2˚ and the water is 66.9˚, trying it's best to warm up.  Low tide was at 5:10am -1.1' and high tide will follow at 11:38am +4.3'.  We have a SSW windswell out of 213˚ at 3.0' and it was around 2' with some forgiving little corners...  Fun, fun, fun... What's The Fourth Without A First Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

W hat's June without a wedding or a graduation?  On the wedding side we had Anthony Maggio and Dasha Barranik tie the knot to create the Barraggio's.  This is noteworthy in that Luke had his mother convinced that this is what they were really going to call themselves.  A fabulous event, it brought rural Healdsburg to a standstill and emptied most of the tasting rooms from Napa to Mendocino... C loudy this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the SSW by 3.1kts and there was a bit of a bump on the water from the start.  The air temperature was 71.2˚ and the water was 66.9˚ with some isolated warm spots.  High tide was at 10:17am +4.0' and low tide will be at 3:03pm +1.9' heading for some minus tides in the early morning as the week progresses.  We have a SSW swell out of 193˚ at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' with some occasional sets.  It's a full moon tonight, so wear gloves to hide those hairy hands...
