Lost Boys & Co... O ne of the earliest representations of surfboards from this Roman frieze...  It depicts Kellius Slaterus discussing fin placement and design with Maximus Tidalius.  Kellius is suggesting moving the fin back for more stability, while Maximus likes the short radius turns...  On the left, the back of a serf... Lost Boys & Co... T his is a case where Photos 1 & 2 should have been at the same museum.  Unfortunately #1 is in Rembrandt's house in Amsterdam and #2 is in the Pompidou Museum in Paris.  Even with a minuscule prostate and great muscle control this kid is not gonna hit the urinal... O vercast this morning with barely 3 miles visibility.  Winds were on by 2.8kts and the sea surface had a slight chop.  The air temperature was 68.7 and the water is quite nice at 71.2.  Low tide was at 8:42am +1.2' and high tide will be at 3:35pm +5.2'.  We have a 2.6' swell out of 200ยบ SSW and it's 1' and not quite deluxe...  Pray for surf... O ne of the most photographed sunrises this year...  On the second day of the fires the sun came up like red Chinese lantern.  It looked like a scarlet Jupiter moon and then it turned decidedly Martian...  The reflections on the water and the surf looked likewise otherworldly...  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."

Lost Boys & Co...   W hoa, been busy here at the Surf & Culture Report... Y esterday was number 366 for Morgan Sliff and she was feted in fine fashion.  It all started in the water at 7:30 as she and her entourage took to the water and rode some excellent 3' to 4' waves south of the pier.  Some great waves by the Morgalini and her surfing familia including Buck D., Bobby Warchola, Capitan Donaldo, Jetski, Kirra Bones, Doc Scales, Mike Siordia, Zack West, Trevor LaShure, David Fillman and host of other lurkers, foam grommets and buoys.  Breakfast at Brother's was served al fresco in the parking lot and featured pozole and Kings Hawaiian cake.  After dousing the honoree with champagne, toasts were offered and the party was directed to move to the Becker retail shop.  There was music, a tarp surfing tarp, eats and plenty of amusements.  The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the Barahona board, featuring the Professor's doodles from 366+- breakies at Bro

Lost Boys & Co... D o they really wear those wooden shoes?  Well, the simple answer is, "Yes, they do, but these days there are alternatives."  Turns out that things can get pretty damp and muddy out in the fields and wooden shoes seem to handle the wet and muck better than most ordinary shoes.  In photo #1 you can see them drying on the fence... O vercast this morning with 5 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the SW by 3.0kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 65.0 and the water is 69.6.  High tide was at 5:56am +3.0' and low tide will be at 10:51am +2.1'.  We have a SSW swell out of 196ยบ at 2' with the tide floating things out of control... Thinking Back Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... I t is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Genevieve Carlisle.  A great surfer girl of the 40's, she also happened to be Montana born, an alumna of the University of Chicago, worked on the Manhattan Project, owned a couple of businesses, raised a family of three wacky girls, was a bridge whiz, a credible sailor, pirate, tennis player and long-suffering mother-in-law.  Services will be Tuesday the 19th at St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach at 7:00pm with a reception to follow.  Always a staunch environmental advocate, in lieu of flowers the family is suggesting that a donation can be made to "Heal the Bay" in her name. O vercast this morning with 7 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the NW by 1.1kts and the sea surface had a rather gooey-ugly film of oil, which ameliorated the chop and has obviated the need for hair tonic for the next couple of days.  The air temperature was 63.8 and the water is 69.4.  Low tide was at 9:57am
