Lost Boys & Co... S orry we missed Friday's surf report.  We got one of the best colds we've had in years! S urf is supposed to be good today and we're thinking that it didn't rain hard enough to measure a warning on the "Danger Boy Rain Index."  Go get it! A couple of final shots from El Salvador.  We know how it is to look at other people's slides of their vacation...  #1 the Professor and Hortensia, conducting a bit of business.  She negotiated and he did the heavy lifting.  Then in #2 we have an itinerant mariachi strolling along Playa El Tunco, just as the sun was going down.  Fantastic sunsets - just like Hawaii, but it's not, because you're in El Salvador! W e found this on the Professor's nightstand this morning.  Apparently his memoirs have taken an ugly turn... S o, here are the Professor & LoLa with Paulo Suarez, the El Salvadorian futból sensation and his son.  Paulo had just got finished vanquishing the Honduran team by scoring two of El Salvador's three goals.  He obliged our request to take his photo and then turned to the Professor and said, "Wait, I think I know you!  Are you Ubaldo Fillol, the famous Argentinian goalkeeper? "  As much as he wanted to claim that he was "El Pato," the Professor demurred and said that he wasn't.  Then, Pablo said, "Wait, you're the Coach!"  The Professor shook his head and said, "Nope, I'm the Professor."  Whereupon his son looked at the Professor and said, "Tu tienes un nariz grande!"  Olé!... W e're going to tell you all the stats, but first remember it's flat...  15 miles visibility under mostly cloudy skies.  Gray but not dark... yet.  Winds were offshore, out of the east at checkout by 5.6kts.  The air temp was 54.2° and the water has finally dropped below 60° to a bracing 59.9°.  We don't know how the Irish and the down East guys do it??  High tide at 7:58am +6.0' and low tide follows at 3:03pm -0.2'.

A nother great SoCal morning as the sun came up just in time.  20 miles visibility and a bit of the local haze at the beach.  Winds were offshore3 by 3.4kts and the sea surface was near glassy.  The air was 49.2° and the water temperature stayed above the 50's with a 60.3°.  High tide at 9:33am 5.9' and low tide at 2:32pm zero's out at 0.0'.  Negative pm lows for the rest of the week.  We have a SW swell out of 236° at 2.3' and it was 3' at El Porto this morning as the Redondo Surf Team caused the Eagles to come in El Segundo.  How appropriate...  Next meet is scheduled for Saturday, although all of the forecasters are calling for one of the biggest storms in the last couple of years to hit.  The Danger Boy

Lost Boys & Co... W e're eating dinner in a little place in the jungle in Guatemala, near the ruins at Tikal.  Memé says, "I think I just saw a turtle fly onto the path."  This got everyone's attention, since even though there were seven of us, not one of us had ever seen a flying turtle (in the wild.)  Ché, had a flashlight and in no time we found the "turtle" which turned out to be a rhinoceros beetle.  To give you some perspective the Professor asked Ché to put his hand next to it.  Ché thought the Professor must be suffering from Dengue fever... but allowed that he would get "close."  If you can enlarge this on your computer, look at the "forks" on either side of it's mouth.  What a concept!  A beautiful fall morning here in LaLa land.  We have 20 miles visibility under a hazy ball of orange sunshine.  Winds were out of the north by 2.7kts and the sea surface was smooth with the slightest ripple.  The air temperature was 46.

Lost Boys & Co... O ne more of the Professor in El Salvador...  Considering the lowered water temps, the cold air and the chilly rain, ES hold some pretty warm memories...  I f the weekend was full of unstable weather (the Danger Boy 72 hour rule was in effect), this morning dawned clear and brisk.  20+ miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 3.4kts and the sea surface was smooth with a slight roll.  The air temperature was 46.1° and the water was down another degree to 60.8° and it felt colder than that.  High tide was at 6:47am +5.6' and low tide will be at 1:30pm +0.5'.  We have a SSW swell out of 209° at 4.6'.  Looking good at all our venues, we're calling it 3' to 5'. W hen in El Salvador do as the El Salvadorians do...  Here LoLa tries her hand at making ES style tortillas.  Smaller but thicker than their Mexican counterparts, they are pretty darned tasty!  Before long she was cranking them out just like the rest of the ladies...  Y ou realize if yo

A bit of rain this morning, light at times and breaking up.  Scheduled T-storms around noon, 12 miles visibility.  Kite flying advisory:  Don't.   Winds, gusty at times to 15kts and the sea surface is hacked and unorganized.  The air temp is 58.7° and the water is 61.7°.  High tide at 6:27am +4.7' and low tide will follow at 12:34pm (yes, 1-2-3-4) +2.0' on your radio dial.  The 46221 buoy tells us we have a SSW swell out of 198° at 3.3'.  However, we'll be waiting for that nor'wester at 315° to be dropping and send us a bit more west for some surf tomorrow. S peaking of tomorrow, there's a 6-way meet with Redondo, San Pedro, Costa, PV, South and El Segundo at the Hermosa Pier.  First heat hits the water at 10am and it goes until noon.  Each school's gotta spot in each heat.  Make

Lost Boys & Co... S omewhere under the ground in the San Diego Volcano Preserve, outside Metapan, El Salvador, we went searching for the various species of bats that live in this netherworld.  Like little Brown Bats, bigger Vampire Bats, giant Fruit Bats and the fearsome Chupacabra.  Photo #1 is the crew taking a rest after crawling on their hands and knees to get to this room.  L to R we have Comondante Ché, Beto, LoLa, Koki and the Professor.  The bats were there in numbers and despite their echo-location, we spent a fair amount of time bobbing and weaving to avoid being smacked by the flying mammals.  That being the case, it was hard to get a photo, but we persisted and got this one good one...
