Which Whey Is The Tuffet Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... N ot quite sure about tuffets...   S till overcast and looking even grayer than yesterday.  9 miles visibility.  Winds are out of the SW by 2.9 kts and the sea surface still has a bit of a ripple.  The air temperature is 62.4˚ and the water is 67.8˚, trying to ignore the fact that it's summer and it should be 70.  High tide is at 7:03am +3.2' and low tide is quick behind at 11:11am +2.6'.  Not much tidal change this morning.  We have a SSW swell out of 209˚ at 3.6' and anything getting around the corner is north of Neptune and is a bit ragged and slabby. I n our photo this morning we have the Professor practicing a little crowd control (that's Elle Enscore and thank goodness she's a quick paddler!)...  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."  The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... S hocking photos from the Sandwich Islands.  First we present you with the history of hurricane tracks as they travelled around the islands.  This current storm has been wreaking havoc, especially on Maui, where our own Boomfwappa was sending periodic updates.  Last night at approximately 10pm PDT Boomfwappa connected with us and relayed the following: "Rain is coming down like a cow pissing on a flat rock!  We are in a restaurant near Pehea, car is gassed, we have extra water and we just ordered the tiramisu.  Lights are flickering.  Lights are out...  Ooh, gotta go..." Apparently, Boomfwappa grabbed whatever was handy and made for the door...  Nice scarf...  Goes with the wife beater... O vercast this morning and 9 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the SW by 2.2kts and there's a very light ripple on the water.  The air was 63.0˚ and the water is 66.9˚ at the buoy.  Low tide is at 9:54am +2.3' and high tide will be at 4:50pm +5.1'.

Lost Boys & Co... Y ou look outside and it's cloudy and it rained about 4am, not looking much like summer in the South Bay.  But if you were in Kehea, Maui it might look like this, as the sun came over the volcano.  If you were hangin' with Boomfwappa, you might be drinking a cup of Kona coffee and thinking about paddling out or maybe just walking along the beach...  Ah, but we're not... S o, it's cloudy like we said and the winds are calming.  The sea surface is smoothing down and the morning sickness is subsiding.  The air is a cool, damp 63.1˚ and the water is a warmer, but damper 66.9˚.  Low tide is at 6:33am +0.0' and high tide will follow at 1:03pm.  We have a SSW swell out of 195˚ at 3.6' and a bit of that is making it here, so we have 2' to 3' surf.  A bit ragged, but it looks like it's getting better with the rising tide... W ord is that the Professor was seen stumbling out of the Barahona Factory covered with foam dust and mumbling to h

Lost Boys & Co... O kay, the weather's been shit, the surf has been shit and now it appears that surfboards have turned to shit.  Actually, it's a pretty good shape, except the laminate depicts all manner of feces floating around on a light green, pissed-off sea.  For some reason you find yourself holding your breath when you get close to it.  You've probably figured out that it's an art piece, that includes a board covered in cigarette butts and another that is all plastic bags.  You can tell a lot about a people from their detritus, as well as their art... S o, we've already primed you for the bad news.  Overcast skies with less than 7 miles visibility.  Winds were light but on-shore from early and the sea surface was lightly chopped.  The air temp was 63.3˚ and the water was 67.3˚, a bit chilly for July.  Low tide was at 5:53am -0.6' and high tide will follow at 12:18pm +5.1'.  We have a SSW swell out of 198˚ at a reported 3.3', but it doesn'

Lost Boys & Co... C liff Hugoboom has a raft of collectors quality boards, so if you liked that Koa we had yesterday, take a look at this Simmons Slot model that Greg Noll copied from an original.  It's got so many planing surfaces that it's no wonder that it took an engineer like Simmons to meld them all into a working unit.  It has an extra piece of balsa scarfed onto the nose to provide the necessary kick and it goes back into a concave tail with dual keels.  It's also a miracle that Noll could accurately transform them into this gorgeous surfboard.   S till the graydom persists (the sun won't shine and the sky won't rain) with 7 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore from sunrise at 3kts and the sea surface continues to sport that heavy ripple.  The air temp is 61.4˚ and the water is 67.5˚.  Low tide is at 5:13am -1.1' and high tide will be at 11:35am +5.0'.  We still have a SSW swell running out of 206˚ at 2.6'.  But like it's been, it hasn

T his beauty is a genuine koa board shaped by Greg Noll and given to Cliff Hugoboom.  The combination of the natural wood and the craftsmanship is a wonder to behold.  It's heavy too...  Noll is most often cited as being the original big wave pioneer, but his abilities to shape these objects d' art is as much of a accomplishment as his other feats... I t's trying to decide if it's overcast or cloudy this morning.  Despite the predictions, it didn't rain last night and this morning the wind was onshore by 7kts, leaving the sea surface a bit ruffled.  The air temperature was 64.1˚ and the water was 68.5˚.  High tide was late this morning at 10:54am +4.9' and low tide will be at 4:12pm +1.3'.  We start with some minus am tides tomorrow.  Currently we have a SSW swell out of 193˚ at 2.6', but it's too steep and we've got weak 1' to 2' waves, with poor shape.  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."  The P

A gain high clouds this morning and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the south by 3.5kts and the sea surface is still sporting that almost annoying bump.  The air was 63.2˚ and the buoy says the water is 65.3˚, but it feels warmer than that.  High tide was at 8:03am +3.6' and low tide will follow at 12:37pm +2.1'.  We have a SSW swell out of 202˚ at 4.3' and it's turning the corner nicely creating, as Danger Boy might say, "A four foot to five foot event."  What ever it was, it was sure fun... D on't sit at home watching TV tonight.  The Pheasant Pluckers are not only plucking, but picking and strumming.  As per usual, Boomfwappa will be beating the skins with a savage rhythm...  Not for the faint of heart.  Happy hour from 6 to 7 and then dancing from 7 t

W e have it on good authority that the Pheasant Pluckers will be playing at Keegan's on Friday the 19th at 7pm.  We plan to be there and scuff up the new paint on the dance floor...  Maybe Happy Hour before - we'll let you  know...   Oh yeah, the "Witch of Agnesi."  That's when you have a plane cubic curve that is symmetric about the y-axis and approaches the x-axis as an asymtote that
