Sometimes On Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... Okay, we're back from our jaunt to Mexico and dodging Corona Virus vectors in various airports...  We asked Clarke if he was worried about getting the Corona Virus and he said, "Not if I can find a girl with Lyme Disease"  Great...  Our nephew said the worst thing was that now he has to wash his hands... This group was holding forth at Casa Don Congrejo as Don was making his famous "Acid Ball" Margaritas.  From L. to R. we have Troy Atkeson, who started his knee boarding career at the the Wedge.  He rides his own version of a Greenough Spoon and he didn't go out until the last day we were in Puerto because it wasn't big enough to satisfy his power requirements.  We'll see if we can share a couple of his rides...  Canada Lee has been coming to Puerto for the last thirty years and is a denizen of the tanning scene.  He and Jeff (Jeffers) Pendleton are regularly locked in for first place in the over 60 Division...  LoLa and Tarsan

Lost Boys & Co... I t's okay, we've got you covered from sunrise (#1) to sunset (#2).  The South Bay's sunrises and sunsets are famous for that orange glow that can last for some time before (sunrise) and after (sunset.)  #1 was courtesy of the Professor as he shepherded the RUHS team through their paces this morning and #2 was a post from René Evette earlier this week... M aybe the coldest morning we've had this season with a 38 at 6am and 58.8 in the water.  10 miles visibility under high clouds.  Winds were out of the east by 3.3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  High tide was at 5:49am +5.5' and low tide will be at 1:19pm -0.5'.  We have a west swell out of 277º at 2.6'.  It was 2' to 3' with some good peaks at the higher tide... " H ONDA, HONDA, FASTER FASTER..."  Doesn't matter that it's a Yamaha, Stanley loves that song when he rides with Livingston (#3).  They were having a great time riding around the camp, doing whee

Lost Boys & Co... " W hat immortal hand or eye could frame thy fearful symmetry."  The Professor (#1) gazing out at that perfect triangle of white water and wondering if it was perfect enough to go out in that cold water with that even colder air blowing on all of your exposed flesh... 10 miles visibility under hazy skies and winds out of the east by 5.0kts.  The sea surface had a bit of a light ripple (see #3).  The air was 47.3 and the water was 59.2.  High tide was at 5:00am +5.0' and low tide will be at 1241pm +0.1'.  We have a 4.9' swell out of the west 274º and it was 3' to 4', but some of the outsides were closed out as the tide fell rapidly... H ow cool does the beach look after a big wind?  (#2)  Well, pretty cool.  Looking a bit like parts of the Great Karoo (where our ever-popular ice plant comes from) with our Palos Verdes peninsula taking the place of the Swartberg Range.  We'll be reporting from that region long about April! Victory At Sea Monday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... " V ictory at Sea" was a popular documentary show (#1) that aired during the 50's and later was edited into a 90 minute film that was wildly popular even some of the countries that had been at war against the U.S.!  The opening credits of the show featured a destroyer cutting through heavy seas to the strains of "Ride of the Valkyries".  By the time you finished listening to the Richard Rodgers soundtrack, you were ready to invade a small country single-handed...  We always referred to "Victory at Sea" as rough seas like they showed in the opening... T hen of course we have our own version in #'s 2 & 3.  The only guy out from Rat to Hermosa was this one kite boarder in #3... W ell, it's windy.  Blowing steady at 10 to 15kts and gusts to the mid-twenties.  High clouds with 10 miles visibility.  The sea surface is white capped, with  the air at 47 and the water at 60.3.  High tide was early at 4:08am +4.6' and low ti
