Sometimes On Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... F irst of all we should congratulate Suzanne & Joey on their wedding!  It was an affair worthy of such a dynamic couple! O f course, if you bring the bridal party to the venue you get the best parking spot (#1).  The photographer thought the bus was a fine prop and the wedding couple (#2) took advantage of the break to get in a quick smooch... #3)  C ut the cake please!  S & J demonstrated their ability to wield sharp objects together as they eviscerated several layers of deliciousness... A nd yes, of course there was dancing (#4).  The Professor and Suzi take a few steps around the dance floor. W e'll see you this week and here's hoping that all the wind that's been howling on the outer waters builds us a swell that's been expected for the last week... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... I f we were on the point watching at Nazaré and this set came through (#1), we would probably shit ourselves.  We can't imagine when these things detonated, that they didn't blow the point to smithereens.  That fact that there are people riding those monsters merely adds to our disbelief... M eanwhile, here in the South Bay you don't have to worry about waves of that caliber.  We have cloudy skies and onshore winds that are beating the waves to a nearly perfect mush.  The air temperature was 65.5º and the water is 70.2º and most likely dropping throughout the day.  Low tide was 6:33am -0.4' and high tide was at 1:05pm +4.5' managing to make conditions as poor as possible.  That combined with a SSW swell out of 200º at 2.6' left us with 1' to 2' surf and a good morning for a bike ride...  Will it get better?  That is our fervent hope!  Let's see how that works out! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professo

Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... D isaster was narrowly averted this morning as trace amounts of rain fell throughout the South Bay (#1).  Tarsan reported large drops of water on his bicycle seat and Jetsky was forced to move all of his boxes indoors to avoid mold on his entire shoe collection.  Larry Dairy escaped the floods in Arizona, only to find himself side-slipping down the Strand, out of control into a four-top at Martha's.  Cloudy drizzly skies and 3 miles visibility with little or no wind.  The air temperature is 66.0º and the water is 67.1º at the buoy.  Low tide was at 5:54am -0.9' and high tide is at 12:25pm +4.4'.  We have a weak SSW swell out of 205º at 2.6' and it's .5' to flat in Hermosa... T here are a couple of sides to this story.  Number one suggests that the Professor flew from the pier, all the way to the middle of the lineup (#2) and made a rather spectacular landing inches away from Soraya.  Number 2, (#3) submits that he took off in front of Doc ?

Lost Boys & Co... O kay scouts, here we are at the Anahulu Bridge (#1), more commonly known as the Haleiwa Bridge waiting for a chance to dive off in the moonlight.  From L. to R.  Queen Lélani Burke, Anaconda and LoLa herself. I n the South Bay we have overcast skies and 9 miles visibility (#2).  Winds are slightly onshore at 1 to 2kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temp was 66.3º and the water has dipped again to 68.0º which makes it feel like 60.  High tide at 10:24am +4.2' and low tide follows at 3:02 for an uninspiring +2.1' drain.  We have a SSW swell out of 193º at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' with some well-shaped rising tide lines.  Bacallao was riding his blue single fin and surfing like he invented the sport...  hats off! T wo things are always special about Hawaii:  the rainbows and the sunsets.  In #3 we have a nice rainbow shot with the pot-of-gold on Val's Reef and Kaena Point floating exactly where you might find Palos Verdes at home.  #

THAT'S Waimea Bay Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... #'s 1 & 2)  Y es/No, that's Waimea Bay and this is exactly how it looks in the summer without the famous big waves.  In photo #1 you can see Steve's white house on the corner of Pinballs and in #2 you can see Dragon Rocks undulating in and out of the surface... T he crew (#3) was out this morning with Tarsan, Walk Away Reneé, Ronnie the Diner and the Professor mugging for Jenx the dog as he snapped our photo.  Hazy overcast and about 7 miles visibility.  Winds were light onshore and the surface was slightly textured.  The air was 67.1º and the water is 67.5º.  High tide is at 9:41am +4.0' and low tide follows at 2:13pm for a 2.2'.  We have a SSW swell turning the corner at 202º at 3.6'.  It was a solid 3' and the board meeting included our latest addition Lana, who currently goes to West High, but the Professor is trying to get her to escape to Redondo.  She'd be one of the better longboarders! S oraya, was a tad uncertain abou

Lost Boys & Co... S o Saturday was Vanessa's (#1) birthday and she celebrated by surfing on the south side of the pier with Doc ? and the Professor.  She still claims to be learning, but she's pretty good for a novice.  She works at the Strandhouse in Manhattan and besides surfing she is a fabulous skater... A nchored a stones throw from the beach this cable ship (#2) was getting ready to lay some coax.  The HAW-1 Transpacific cable was laid between Hawaii and the mainland in 1957 and completed to the far east in 1964...  We guarantee that the quality of the call will be better than trying to use your cell phone on Hermosa Blvd... C hecking the surf this morning (#3), we find Bob Thomas, Reneé Leyman and Doc?  Small but fun and it saw the return of Brother Ronnie Garcia to the lineup.  He hasn't missed a beat!  10 miles visibility and partly cloudy skies.  Winds were light onshore and the sea surface was slightly textured.  The air temperature was 65.3º and the water at

Lost Boys & Co... B een on the smallish side for the last couple of weeks.  #1) Bob and Steve trying to make it look bigger...  No matter.  It was partly cloudy this morning and visibility was 10 miles.  Winds were light but fluky turning on about 9:30.  The air was 67.5º and the water beat it by a tenth at 67.6º, but Doc ? says it's warmer and Tarsan said it was over 70.  High tide was at 6:40am +3.3' and low tide was early at 11:15am +2.0'.  The swell is out of the south 177º at 3.0' and it was 1' to 2' with some bigger outsides and lefts made specifically for pig-dogging into the pier... #2) A insworth looking like the French Riviera.  There never used to be beach umbrellas.  We used to make fun of people who brought them down.  Now there are full-on tents, pop-ups and make-shift shelters...  Global warming and the evil sun have changed everything... I n 1812 Don Francisco de Paula Marin began brewing beer in Hawaii.  You can imagine how welcome this fres

Lost Boys & Co... You have to prepare yourself mentally to go to Hawaii.  Here (photos 1 & 2) we have "Queen Leilani Burke & Her Hula Heroines."  They have been known to cast a magical spell over their audiences while removing their wallets.  Tiki torches always help the effect... Hazy sun in the South Bay with 10 miles visibility and light onshore winds.  A bit of a textured surface as the morning slides along.  The air was a pleasant 67.3º and the water is an even more pleasant 70.0º.  We have a SSW swell out of 200º at 2.6' and it was a small but fun 2'... #3)  An Hawaiian afternoon, with Nannie and the girls sliding at Val's Reef... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
