Summer Started Yesterday Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... A fun Board Meeting this morning (#1), with Eli (feets), Doc Scale, Jah Morgan, Mr. Christian, Ozzie and the Professor slicing up this little crystal peeler against the pier.  The photo kinda sums up the morning with sunny skies and 15 miles visibility.  No wind to speak of and the sea surface had some residual bump from last night's wind.  The air temperature was a bit chilly 60.3 early and then warmed up nicely.  The water was 69.6.  Low tide was 6:58am +1.6' and high tide fills in at 1:40pm +4.5'.  There's a sexy SW swell out of 223º at 3.0' and it was fun, small Hermosa on a bit of tide push... R iding a wave is important, but finishing well has it's pluses.  In #2 we have the Professor leaning back and dropping his arms behind his back for a casual bounce off the white water... I n #'s 3 & 4 Mr. Christian demonstrates his noseriding abilities.  His slight adjustment of his body position enables him to stay perched on the tip w

Lost Boys & Co... YES!  Today was Dr. Scale's birthday and it started out in the best way with Dr. Scale and the Professor hitting the surf for some fine little peelers (#1) making for a clean 100 years of surfing experience.  So who believes that Ed is 70?  Not Tandis (#2), not Tarzan (#3), no, not even Jah Morgan (#4)! I t was a fine blue skyed morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore by 3.7kts and the sea surface had some residual bump from last evening.  Low tide started out the morning at 6:32am +1.2' and hi9gh tide comes around at 1:01pm +4.5'.  We had a SW swell out of 225º at 2.6' and it was a fine 2' and some bouncy little smackers on the north side of the pier, which was fine because both the Professor and Eddy had gotten their passports stamped... A s per usual, Ed was feted with the traditional cake from Von's, festooned with blackberries, strawberries, tangerines and blueberries...  He is shown here (#5) before he loaded his

Lost Boys & Co... A nother gray morning with 5+ miles visibility.  Winds were light on-shore and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 65.5 and the water is holding right around 69.6.  Low tide was at 6:05am +0.8' and high tide was at 12:28pm +4.5'.  We have a SSW swell out of 206º at 2.0' and it was half that as you can see in photo#1.  Windy this afternoon and maybe it'll blow a little something up in the morning... A fter having a bit of dinner at Capt. Kidd's this evening, Alan Walti walked out to discover his bicycle lock in two pieces and his new electric bike GONE.  Doesn't that piss you off!  Who the hell does this kind of shit?  To his credit he stayed calm and called the cops and then headed down to the station to file a report.  If you're gonna try and recoup anything from your homeowners policy you need to have a police report.  But of course he's out a bike and it'll cost him a couple of G's to replace it...  Damn!

Lost Boys & Co... A naconda Burke (King of Snakes) is shown here (#1) at Lake Payette, McCall, Idaho, chasing this wake boat at 10kts and stylin' while he does it...  He's coming into town tonight, so watch the lineup for his smiling face... O vercast and undercast this morning as the day began with 4 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the WSW at 1.1kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was a chilly 63.2 and the water is up a couple of degrees to 69.1.  High tide was at 10:41am +4.3' and low tide follows at 3:47pm +2.0' on the full moon (of course you can't see it because by the time it rises, it's overcast again!)  We have a SSW swell out of 211º when it's not straight out of the south, at 3.3', but we're not seeing any of that because the swell is so oblique... U sing Ansel (Aperture) Adams rule of thirds, we composed this shot (#2) to impress our ranger photography instructor.  (South Fork, Kings River) W hy are these men (#3) la

Lost Boys & Co... W hy was Dubrovnik never captured by raiding armies?  Well, one good reason might be that you have to climb up these steep cliffs (#1) and then scale the city walls...  There are still a host of guys down at the bottom of the sea below the cliffs wearing full armor... T o start off with a bang - the surf was basically flat.  Joey Lombardo says a south swell is coming and it could bend our way with a little luck.  If not, El Porto will have 40,000 people.  Still gray in the mornings and cool.  High tide was at 9:50am +4.3' and low tide will be at 2:41pm +2.2'.  The swell is out of the south at 2' and let's hope Joey is right!  In desperation we SUP-ed this morning and Bacallao gave us some pointers on the finer aspects of paddling... C roatia has had a number of excellent basketball players make it to the NBA.  Have you ever noticed that they seem to always break to the left?  We might have the answer why...  (#2) #3 Deserves a bit of an explanatio

Lost Boys & Co... M ore gray as Foggust becomes the new month in our surf calendar.  S.J. and José (#1) take part in "Bring-Your-Daughter-To-Surf-Day", which just happened to coincide with Robe Tuesday.  If you were going to bring your J.C. Penny's robe to the beach, it's time to up your game...  Meanwhile, Jetski and S.J. (#2) make duck lips as they enjoy the light offshore breeze.  The sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 65.5 and the water is 66.9.  All the swimmers agreed that it had dropped a few points...  Waiting for the tide to rise at 9:50am +4.2', our group (#3) does their best to demonstrate the character that has made them legends from 10th Street to the Pier and west of Hermosa Avenue.  Then at 2:41pm the tide dropped to a +2.2' low, exposing the recently covered wreck of the Hesperus.  There's a SSW swell out of 202º at 2.0' and it wasn't enough to warrant a go-out.  Maybe mañana... Lost Boys & Co... O nce again summer is running away before we really got a hold on things...  But not before we met up with the Maharishi Larkin and Kris (#1) in Colorado.  We are considering two of his many offers.  #1  Ride oil tanker wakes in Galveston Bay and #2  Go surfing at the wave park in Waco.  We asked if that was the same park where the guy got brain eating amoeba and he said "Yes."  But they tested everything and now the official word is that the guy got the bug in Mexico on a trip down there...  That doesn't make us feel better either... O vercast this morning with 5 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore by 1.2kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 63.0 and the water was 66.0.  High tide was at 9:19am +4.1' and low tide was at 2:03pm +2.4'.  We have a SSW swell out of 205º at 2.0' and it was 1' to 2' and poor to fair and more fun than it looked.  Remember that tomorrow is "Robe Tuesday" and ever
