Lost Boys & Co... W hen you both wear the same outfit (#1) someone either has to leave or you come up with a creative way of handling the situation.  In this case Jetski and the Professor chose to face opposite directions so that the dorsal and ventral views were constantly being displayed!  These are Malibu Dana designs and some percentage of the profits go to help fund women's cancer research...  "Okay, it's your turn to walk backwards..." ¼ Mile to a ½ mile visibility and pretty foggy in some spots - clearing as the morning dries out.  Winds were strong offshore by 6.3kts and the sea surface had a bit of texture to it.  The air was 52, but felt chilly with the windchill and the water is 60.4.  High tide was early at 4:49am +4.7' and low tide follows at 12:19pm +0.5'.  We have a SSW swell out of 200º at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' but bumpy and uneven... W e just received news that  State Representative Al Muratsuchi, will be holding a news c

That's How You Crack A Case Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... T here was a wallet found in the street outside of Brother's Burritos this morning.  Someone turned it in to Brother's counter, imagining it might have belonged to a patron.  But then we put "Clarke the Meth Hunter"™ on the case...  It was a pleasure to behold...  He went through the wallet, discovered a receipt from Scotty's dated an hour earlier.  Figuring the owner would call the last place he remembered having the wallet, Clarke took it to Scotty's and in no time the owner called and came in to pick it up!  Ah, the power of ratiocination!  (#1 Clarke and Jenx the Wonder Dog®) A beautiful morning with light offshore breezes and smooth seas.  The air was a bit chilly at 50.0 and the water was 60.4.  Low tide was at 11:22am +0.9' and high tide followed at 5:51pm +2.9'.  We have a WSW swell out of 251º at 2.3', but it was 3' to 4' as the swell focused on Aubrieland.  We watched Danny Connell and Sean Larned rip some

The Power Of Love Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... W e have recently discovered the efficacy of doing the Surf & Culture Report while slightly (or less so) inebriated.  Intentionally or not it has been an adventure in consciousness.  In #'s 1 & 2 we have different views of the same surfline...  We're trying to figure out which one makes more sense, but there's nothing to suggest they both aren't valid representations...  Thank you's to the SenseiJoey for the images... C ouldn't figure out if the fog was coming in or going out.  When it was in there was about a ¼ mile visibility.  When it was out there was more.  Winds were offshore by 2.8kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was a paltry 47.7 and the water is still a tepid 60.6.  Low tide was at 9:58aqm +1.3' and high tide encroaches on the mean high tide line at 3:56pm +2.8'.  We have a west swell out of 261º at 3.3' and it was 3' to 4' and wally, but the occasional corner for your surfing e

Lost Boys & Co... M ingling with the crowd in 1985 (#1), the Professor and LoLa check out Paul Roustan's captivating artwork.  He mainly does body painting, but he builds elaborate headdresses and costumes as well.  Check out the shark's head in the background... ½ mile to 2 miles visibility before the sun burned the overcast away.  Winds were off by 3.4kts and the sea surface was smooth to a slight bump.  The air temperature was 55.5 and the water is holding at 60.6.  Low tide was at 8:21am +1.5' and high tide was at 1:58pm +3.2'.  We have a west swell out of 260º at 3.0' and it was 3' to 4' and a bit wally crashy...  Should be the same mañana, but maybe some better waves on the avenues... (#2) On the left we have Kimmy-Suz and Mr. Christian in what are now called "onesies" but were then known as "jumpsuits."  On the right the Professor and Maj. Jah Morgan channel the "Top Gun" look.  They come and go, but aviator sungl

Mid-Eighties Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... O kay, honestly, we were never that much into time travel.  But it turns out that Paul Roustan (#1) shown here with Persephone's Mistress showed us how entertaining it could be.  Where to Paul?  He said "...the mid-eighties."  The clincher is that he let us ride in the original time travel DeLorean from " Back To The Future ".  #2 the Professor checks the gauges and gets ready for 1985...  Where are the keys?... A bit of foggies this morning with ¼ mile to a mile visibility.  Winds were light offshore at 2.1kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was a damp 52.3 and the water was downright wet at 60.1.  Low tide was at 6:55am +1.5' and low tide will be at 12:38pm +3.9'.  Not much tidal differentiation.  We have a freshening west swell out of 268º at 2.3' and it was 2' to a little bigger with some nice lefts just north of Aubrieland... T he girls were pretty back then (as you may remember.)  #3 from L. to R. we have S

Lost Boys & Co... A nother one of Joey the Sensei's crystal ball photos (#1)... C lear this morning and at least 20 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore by 1.9kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air was a brisk 51.9 and the water is 60.1, which is good for February.  High tide was at 10:01am +6.2' and low tide follows at 4:51pm -1.1'.  We have a SSW swell out of 203º at 2.0' and it was 2' until the tide floated it away.  We evidently made a bad call yesterday.  Turns out even before the tide started dropping, it turned on and the late morning crew scored some 3' to 4' waves.  Honestly, we looked at it for 15 minutes and couldn't tell it was going to go off!  Win some... A clever marketing tool, Saldo Wines used a silkscreen that looks for all the world like a Dymo™ label (#2).   Ken Norris would have loved this!  He put Dymo™ labels on everything...   Lost Boys & Co... T he clouds were pointing the way to this pleasant sunset off the Hermosa Pier (#1).  LoLa was enjoying the air before heading on our bicycle ride... C lear skies this morning and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 2kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temp was 51.3 and the water is 59.5.  High tide was at 9:16am +6.7' and low tide follows at 4:12pm -1.5'.  We have a SW swell out of 220º at 2.6'.  That translates to 1' to 2' and poor to flat... T heSenseiJoey has been doing some stellar or should we say solar photography for some time now.  We kinda wish he's put a show together so we could ogle some of these pieces all at once...  We especially like these with the crystal ball... R emember Paul Roustan will be exhibiting his "Back to the Future" work Saturday, February 3rd at the Resin Gallery on Cypress St. in Hermosa. ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
