Elvis Imitators Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... S eems like we spend a lot of time visiting the food vendors in different parts of the world.  Bottom line:  There's lots of good food out there!  This one's for your sweet tooth.  Candied fruit in Puerto Escondido, Mexico... M ostly clear skies with 14 miles visibility.  Winds were on early to 3.7kts at checkout, with a bit of light chop on the surface.  Air temp was 73.6˚ and 67.8˚ in the water although Hermosa Pier listed 71˚.  Low tide was at 6:20am +0.8' and high tide will follow at 12:56pm +4.5'.  We have a WSW swell out of 251˚ coming in at 3.0' with some bigger outsides... N ext time the 405 gets you blue, remember there are still stretches of unpaved, uncrowded roads out there.  Marvelous, maybe until it rains...  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."  The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... T he red eyes have it... H igh clouds with 15miles visibility.  Winds were soft on shore from the start and the sea surface had a light ripple going.  The air temperature was 73.5˚ and the water is around 67.8˚, warmer if you're in the right spot.  Low tide early at 5:53am +0.4' and high tide maxes out at 12:23pm +4.4'.  We had a 3.0' swell out of the SW and it was 2' to 3'.  Get there early for the rising tide... T he surf has been pretty damned bad lately, so we thought we'd rummage through the archives...  Found this nice one of Danger Boy fading, waiting for it to pop a bit before heading into the speed run... H azy sun this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were on from the start at 3kts plus and the sea surface had a distinct ripple.  The air temperature was 70.5˚ and the water was 67.3˚.  Low tide was at 5:26am +0.1' and high tide was at 11:53am +4.4'.  We have a SWS swell out of 200˚ at 2.0' and it's 1' and poor at most spots... M oroccan pan-scape...  All the tractor tracks are from taking the boats out early in the am.  They come in about 1pm and put them all back...  You just walk up to a boat and buy your favorite fish... A fter 14 years it's time for something completely different!  James Wheatley's split from Becker's and is gonna start an entirely new page in the payroll services/management biz!  He's uniquely qualified.  Hell, he's been a manger and done payroll - damn - he's been ON the payroll...   Best to James! C loudy skies, not quite as threatening as yesterday's electrical show, but still thick with 15 miles visibility.  Winds were calm at checkout and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 68.3˚ and the water was close at 68.5˚.  This is the year to go in the water if you think it's always too chilly.  Low tide was early at 5:00am -0.1' and high tide will be in the morning at 11:24am +4.3'.  We have a south swell out of 188˚ at 2.0' and it's half that at most local spots...  Maybe later in the week... Lost Boys & Co... T here was a time when you had to head out of town to see some world class architecture.  Well, we're guessing you still have to leave the "So. Bay Bubble", but not far away in Los Angeles there are some pretty spectacular buildings.  The Disney Concert Hall is one of our faves... S urprise, surprise!  Some good ones this morning as the wind blew stiff offshore with a southern kick and the sea surface was smooth.  10 miles visibility and hazy skies with all that air moving toward the beach at 5.5kts.  The air temp was a warm 69.3˚ and the wind riled an upwelling that dropped the water to 64.9˚.  Shorty for sure.  High tide was at 10:03am +4.1' and low tide will follow at 2:56pm +2.1'.  We have a WSW swell out of 245˚ at 3.0' and it's just about that with some nice thick outsides...  W e were going to call this "double trouble," but that suggests more than we intended...  Mark & Fred have another green and white '73,

L ookin' like summer out there with 20+ miles visibility and nary a cloud in sight.  Winds were calm and the sea surface had a bit of residual bump fro0m yesterday's wind.  The air temp was 67.3˚ and the water is 68.0˚.  High tide was at 9:34am +4.0' and low tide will follow at 2:20pm +2.2'.  We have a weakening west swell out of 270˚ at 2.5' and it's 2' to 3'.  Smaller but fun... Freddy was down in Cabo recently and when the surf was down and the wind wasn't blowing for kite-surfing he did a little fishing.  He caught a nice sailfish, but it was this dorado that was the best eating... 20+ miles visibility this morning under clear blue skies.  Winds were on early out of the WSW by 3.0kts and the sea surface was a bit riled up.  The air temperature was 67.3˚ and the water was 67.1˚ at the buoy and 72˚ at the Hermosa Pier.  High tide was at 8:16am +3.6' and low tide will be at 12:53pm +2.3'.  We have a 2.6' WSW swell that is building throughout the day.  It's 2' this morning and should be around 3' mañana.  Sunrise is around 5:57am and sunset is at 8:02pm. A lways pick the most unflattering photo of someone eating.  There is no way to tell the quality of the food, if his face stayed this way or where the pic was taken.  The answers would be:  excellent, no and Chacahua, Mexico.  The real question is why you'd get a photo of the Professor mangling a taco when there was picture perfect surf 90° to the left... P artly cloudy this morning with 20 miles visibility.  Winds on from the NW by 2.0kts and the sea surface had a light ripple going.  The air temp was 65.3˚ and the water is 68.4˚.  Low tide is at 7:47am +0.3' and high tide will follow at 2:30pm +5.2'.  There's a SW swell out of 221˚ at 1.5' and there are some little waves along the beach, getting a bit stronger as you move north. C loudy again this morning, with 9 miles visibility and a light onshore by 2.2kts., just enough for a little ripplation.  The air temperature was 63.5˚ and the water was 68.2˚.  Low tide was at 7:00am sharp -0.3' and high tide will be at 1:35pm +5.1'.  We have a SSW swell out of 193˚ at 1.6' and it's 1' and just right for someone's first wave.  Today that was Jesse (Jessica) Alvarado, from Colorado.  She and Allison joined the Professor for a few little waves and Jesse really got the hang of it.  She says she'll be back! Lost Boys & Co... H ave you had your flu shot?  Pigita didn't and we had to make sure she wasn't going to infect any unsuspecting diners... C loudy this morning (not to be confused with our typical overcast marine layer) and 7miles visibility.  Winds were onshore by 1.2kts gusting a bit later in the morning to 3+kts.  The sea surface was lightly chopped.  The air temperature was 69.5˚ and the water has dropped to 68.4˚, which is a 6˚drop.  Randy Meistrell, told us he was out in the channel yesterday and they got a 77˚ reading!  They jumped overboard and had a nice float in about 3,000ft of shark infested waters.  Low tide was at 6:15am -0.8' and high tide will be at 12:45pm +5.0'.  We have a WSW swell out of 245˚ at 1.6', translating to 2' on the beach.  Fun little twisters,  if  you're in the right state of mind...  You are... Lost Boys & Co... W e might be the last generation that held 33⅓ in common knowledge...  Right up there with 45's... O vercast this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore WSW from the start at 2.3kts and the sea surface had just a little wind ripple.  The air temp was 66.3˚ and the water was a delightful 70.9˚.  High tide was at 9:07am +3.9' and low tide will follow at 1:53pm +1.9'.  We have a SSW swell out of 199˚ at 3.0', but it's not quite turning the corner, so we had a 2' surf and a good day for paddling... L oLa going out for a stroll from the J'nain Mogador Riad, off the marketplace in Marakesh, Morocco.  Twenty steps from the front door and you could get wonderfully lost in the rabbit warren of streets and alleys... A beautiful Monday morning with 15 miles visibility under hazy but cloudless skies.  Winds were out of the west by 3.3kts and the sea surface was smooth, with a bit of ripple.  The air and the water were both 70.2˚.  High tide was at 6:27am +3.1' and low tide was early at 11:08am +2.0'.  We have a south swell out of 201˚ at 2.6' at the buoy and 2' on the beach.  It's 8' at south facing beaches, so think Huntington and Malibu... U gg-oh!  What's them bugs on the watermelon?  Turns out they're honey bees!  Yep, the melon is trés sweet the honey bees just skip the flowers and go right for the real deal.  So sweet it makes your teeth tingle...  You just keep shooing away the bees... " I t's Third Grade and Mrs. Shipley is doing the unit on reptiles.  She's telling us about snakes and what a great job they do in the wild, keeping down the rodent population and anchoring the very balance of nature.  She tells us how clean they are and they're not slimy like you might think.  She also makes a point of saying how most snakes are not poisonous and how they are basically your friend...  She then pulled a five foot long black and yellow King Snake out of a burlap bag.  I honestly don't know what happened, I had been sitting in the front (troublemaker) row, but the next moment I was in the back of the room under the coat rack.  Nope, don't like snakes..."
