Torquemada Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

"It's Third Grade and Mrs. Shipley is doing the unit on reptiles.  She's telling us about snakes and what a great job they do in the wild, keeping down the rodent population and anchoring the very balance of nature.  She tells us how clean they are and they're not slimy like you might think.  She also makes a point of saying how most snakes are not poisonous and how they are basically your friend...  She then pulled a five foot long black and yellow King Snake out of a burlap bag.  I honestly don't know what happened, I had been sitting in the front (troublemaker) row, but the next moment I was in the back of the room under the coat rack.  Nope, don't like snakes..."

Overcast this morning with the slightest hint of drizzle.  Winds were soft out of the WSW at 2kts and the sea surface was smooth almost glassy.  The air temperature was 64.2˚ and the water was 70.3˚ at the buoy.  Low tide was 6:35am +0.2' and high tide will be at 1:22pm +4.0'.  We have a WSW swell out of 245˚ at 3.0' and it was all of that and a bag of chips at most spots...

"So, LoLa's watching the snake charmer and he's got this gorgeous back Cobra swaying to and fro, just like in the movies, as he plays that reedy flute."  There are Pit Vipers around the Cobra (basically rattlesnakes.)"  Lola says, "Get my picture with a snake!"  I said "No."  But she was already making a deal with the guy, so I got ready to snap a photo.  I barely got off a shot, when this guys buddy threw a snake around MY neck!  He felt me tense up and yelped, "Don't jump!"  "OH YEAH!"  I made nice, but it wasn't easy...

Aubrie, backlit, getting ready to catch a few...  She's heading back to Idaho on Saturday, so she's getting in as much water time as possible...
