Lost Boys & Co... W hy are these men laughing?  Well, they just heard that you aren't coming to Samba tonight for happy hour.  THEY know how well Mark pours a drink.  THEY know how savory the food is.  THEY know where to go for a good time...  Maybe you'll change your mind...  5:30 on the patio... O vercast this morning and 5 miles visibility.  A chill wind was blowing from the SE/South at 3.9kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 63.0 but felt chillier and the water is 65.1 and the whole thing needed some sunshine.  Low tide was at 9:24am +0.7' and high tide follows at 4:28pm +4.7'.  There's a SSW swell out of 210º at 3.0' and it was about that with a few bigger outsides.  Supposed to get sunnier and a tad bigger mañana... T he Professor and Jonathan Goldsmith have had a good-natured relationship for years.  It's only been recently that they have been less than cordial to each other.  It probably stems from Jon's removal from the

Lost Boys & Co... W e have no idea what's happening in Thebes, but Friday's happy hour is going to be at Samba .  5:30 for all of your happy hour needs... W hy are these men laughing?  They have no idea what's happening in Thebes either.  Two of them don't know where Thebes is.  One of them doesn't give a shit... C loudy early, breaking up mid-morning and turning quite nice.  9 miles visibility through the warm haze.  Winds out of the SE by 5.6kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp is 63.3 and the water is 64.6 and it's about time it gained  a couple more degrees for July 4th.  Low tide is at 8:30am +0.1' and high tide will follow at 3:30pm +4.6'.  We have a SSW swell out of 200º at 3.0' and it was 2' to 3' with some nice lefts if you just happened to be in the right spot, like the Professor and Boomfwappa (#2) after disporting themselves in the Hermosa breakers.  Supposed to be a tad bigger mañana, so get waxed and ready to

Lost Boys & Co... H appy Birthday! to Donna Paine.  On her special day she was lucky enough to have Alex Martinez jump out of a burrito at Brothers.  Okay, it was a special order...  Extra hot sauce... S ome fun ones this morning!  A bit gray to start the day, but clearing about 9:30.  Visibility was about 7 miles.  Winds were out of the SE at 3.3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was 63.7 and the water is 63.5 and needs some summer love.  Low tide was at 7:38am -0.4' and high tide will be at 2:30pm +4.4'.  We have SW swell out of 220º at 3.9' and it was 3' to 4' with some nice coasters.  They were popping on the outside a bit farther and bigger than they looked initially.  Morgan got one of the best noserides we've seen this year and we're more than halfway through... J oey Anderson has been doing some stellar drone work lately.  He's got some great aerial shots of local beach landmarks, but this one of a pod of dolphins takes things to

Lost Boys & Co... W hile Buck is touring Slovenia, playing accordion in all the great Slav Halls, his bus patiently waits for his return.  We're all excited to see when it finally hits the road.  Apparently the only way you can score a "Redondo" license plate is to get it in Utah... 10 miles visibility under clear and cloudless skies.  Winds wee light onshore at 1.9kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 61.3 and the water has dipped to 63.9.  Low tide was at 6:00am -1.4' and high tide will be at 12:37pm +4.4'.  We have a SW swell out of 220º at 3.3' and it was a fun 3' to 4', with some shapely lefts, as Jetski will attest.  He caught a zipper from Scotty's Bubbles to the pier and had the savages on the beach rioting... S peaking of shapely waves, #2 features Big Wave Dave with a rather well shaped wave.  We wondered about his sudden interest in body surfing...   Lost Boys & Co... A ll that rain this winter brought the morning glories out in profusion this spring.  As we took a closer look, we realized it appeared that they were lit from within!  If this would only work at night, it could change gardening forever... O vercast this morning and 3 miles visibility.  Winds were light onshore by 3.6kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 64.0 and the water has dipped to 63.3.  High tide was at 10:03am +4.2' and low tide will follow at 2:59pm +1.5'.  We have a SSW swell at a steep 203º at 3.0' and it was 1' to 2' and poor at most spots. D id you know that you could get soy sauce in 5 gallon buckets?  Neither did we.  This is a real game changer... H appy Hour at 5:30pm this evening at Laurel Tavern, home of Hermosa's best French dip.  That's a sandwich, not a person.  Always fun!  See you there...   Lost Boys & Co... W e're going through our mail and before we can throw away this one piece of junk mail we notice it has a 1973 VW bus on the cover.  Then we give it a closer look and hell, that's our bus!   Okay, so it's like they're advertising lifestyle and it just happens to be ours...  They have no idea what they're getting into... A tad foggy again this morning with a half a mile visibility, not breaking up until the mid-afternoon.  Winds were on early at 3.0kts and the sea surface was a smooth roll.  As long as it stays so hot inland we're sure to get some marine layer and onshore winds.  The air temperature was 61.5 and the water was 64.2.  High tide was at 8:16am +3.9' and low tide will be at 1:23pm +1.4'.  We have a SSW swell out of 199º at 4.3' and it was 3' to almost ear-high with some nice drops and rather shapely corners...   Lost Boys & Co... W ell, if a building (#1) can live in infamy this might be one of the best candidates we know.  The Texas Book Depository's sixth floor window was the perch from which Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy.  A rather stolid structure, in the Romanesque-Revival style, it is burned into the minds of most Baby-Boomers who remember exactly where they were when they heard the news that Kennedy had been shot... S ummer starts tonight at 9:24pm and we'll be at the party.  This morning skies were foggy and visibility was around one mile.  Winds were light onshore by 2.6kts and the sea surface had a light roll to it.  The air temperature was 61.5 and the water was 65.8.  High tide was at 7:16am +3.7' and low tide was at 12:34pm +1.3'.  We have a 3.3' SSW swell out of 193º and it was 3' to 4' in the water (unless you were one of the guys out there learning who estimated it was 7' to 9', the kids in class were kind to them...)   Lost Boys & Co... I t started out as a secret, but since it's in the LBS&CR we can divulge it to the general population:  Happy hour this week will be at the Laurel Tavern in downtown Hermosa Beach.  5:30pm for good food, great beverages and even better conversation...  (Contrary to some mean spirited folks, the Professor could not hear what Jetski was whispering to LoLa...) F oggy this morning with 150 yards visibility.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was oily, glassy.  The air temperature was 63.3 and the water is an honest 66.0.  High tide is at 6:05am +3.6' and low tide will be at 11:43am +1.1 for a short interval tidal swing.  We have a SSW swell out of 203º at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' and fun if you could see'um... B inocular vision has it's definite perks, but when you really want to scope out the surf it should be in the style of Capt.   Lost Boys & Co... B reakfast sandwich, Texas style.  Basically, a Toad-in-the-Hole on top of ham, bacon and sausage, then shortly after this photo was taken, "covered in red-eye gravy."  The "hole" had a glob of strawberry jelly that looked like a heart on top.  We thought the waitress might be trying to send us a subliminal message, but no, it just looked like a heart... C lear skies this morning with a bit of fog wafting through around 8am.  Winds were off by 3.7kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temp was 59 and warmed quickly and the water is 64.9.  Low tide was at 9:03am +0.58' and high tide follows at 4:19pm at (and we're not making this up) +4.19'.  We have a SSW swell out of 205º at 3.6' and it was a fun 3' to 4' with some nice low tide zippers... O f course even in Texas, you have to have dinner!  We were surprised at how cosmo the little town of Rockwall was!  We ate at Zanata (#2), just off the San Jacinto

Lost Boys & Co... W hoa, he's still there (#1)...  Short shorts, paddle the wrong way and fin's up.  Lots could go wrong here... T he Professor and Kelly (#2) checking out the surf in the midst of the mist.  Basically rained for awhile this morning and then we're saddled with this persistent gray.  Half mile visibility.  Winds are out of the west by 3.3kts and the sea surface is slightly chopped.  The air temp was 59.1 and the water is 63.3.  High tide is at 10:09am +3.7' and low tide will follow at 2:55pm +2.0'.  The buoy is showing a SSW swell out of 192º at 3.0' and it was 2' and sloppy at most spots... #3 H ere we have Jetski preparing to make his assault on breakfast.  Subtle hints suggest Brothers is open and ready for business... B ack next Wednesday, unless we can slip out a couple of reports from behind the "Barbed Wire Curtain" in Texas... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Find The Wharf Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... W e were wondering, besides the traditional definition of the word wharf, if it couldn't be what a pirate's dog would say... 3 miles visibility, under overcast skies.  Visibility is between 2 and 3 miles.  Winds were offshore early and then turned SW at 3.9kts, with calm seas.  The air temperature was 59.6 and the water is 63.7.  High tide was at 9:31am +3.7' and low tide will be at 2:26pm +1.8'.  We have a SSW swell running at 2.6' out of 203º.  It was 2' to 3' and a tad weak, but still some fun ones on the lower tide... S o, we'll be in Texas tomorrow, until next Tuesday.  If you see Anderson (photo #2) driving the bus during that time, don't distract him.  He has enough of a problem reaching the pedals, using the gearshift and most importantly, finding the horn.  Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated...   Lost Boys & Co... " A nd what might be that fetching scent you're wearing LoLa?"  The Professor gets a closer sniff... C ontinued overcast with little hope of clearing and 2.2 miles visibility.  Winds out of the SW by 5.0kts and the sea surface was lightly textured.  The air temperature was 61.3 and the water is 64.0.  High tide was at 8:51am +3.7' and low tide will be at 1:57pm +1.6'.  We are enjoying a SSW swell out of 195º at 3.6' and it was 3' to 4' with some fun peaks... (Photo #2)  N o question that things are rapidly going downhill.  Here we have an example of one of our nearest primate relatives using and no doubt abusing stout malt liquor.  This is before reporting to work as a comfort animal to a young child.  If it weren't for this paragraph we might have said we were speechless...
