Lost Boys & Co... H appy Hour this week will be at Mike's, Laurel Tavern or Oral Cavern.  Whatever...  5:30pm... F rom the Danger Boy archives we have this marimba.  It needs a bit of TLC, but we trust in no time at all we'll be hearing it's restored dulcet tones... C razy weather this morning with patchy fog and winds blowing through all four cardinal points from 2 to 10kts.  The sea surface had a bit of bump.  The air temp was 54.6 and the water is hanging low around 58.6.  Low tide early at 5:38am -0.4' and high tide will follow at 11:50am +4.4'.  A building swell out of the west to WSW around 250º at 3.9' ramping up to between 6' to 8' this evening.  It'll all depend on the wind in the morning... H ere we have one from the Midget Gidget series.  After starting on longboards with the Professor she graduated to this 5'11" "Red October Model" that the Professor shaped and attempted to air brush to look like an airplane wing.

Lost Boys & Co... S o in photo #1 we have the Danger Boy archives.  They were removed from their vault a couple of days ago and it's the first time some of these treasures have seen the light in decades.  Obviously, all of that stuff couldn't have been in that little shed.  The shed is just a facade for a much larger system of vaults and tunnels that connect various parts of the property.  Danger Girl will be cataloging and filing pertinent objects with the intent of exhibiting them in the Museum of Danger®. H azy sun this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were calm, but again some residual bumpiness from last night.  The air temperature was 54.4 and the water (at the buoy) is 58.6, but feels like it's in the 60's in the surfline.  High tide is at 10:58am +4.9' and low tide will be at 4:54pm +0.3'.  Tides flip tomorrow as we start with a -0.4' tide at 5:38am.  We had a 4.3' WSW swell out of 254º and it was 3' to 6' depending on where

C lear skies this morning and 20 miles visibility.  At checkout the winds were actually calm, but the sea surface remained bumped from yesterday's winds.  The air temperature was 56.6 and the water falls a tick to 58.3.  High tide was at 10:12am +5.3' and low tide will be at 4:19pm -0.1'.  We have a variable swell from west to WSW currently at 257º at 5.2', it was 4' to 5' this morning but could be a tad smaller mañana.  Check it out...   Lost Boys & Co... O k, how many times do you think we had to hit this pane of glass with a hammer before it broke?  Never mind the right answer is 5.  And it took a pretty good swing.  Personally, we have "bumped" into panes of glass and had them shatter.  This was something else... M ostly clear skies with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore by 2.2kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was a chilly 50.2 and the water is 59.5.  High tide was at 9:30am +5.4' and low tide will be at 3:47pm -0.3'.  We have a west swell out of 267º at 5.2' and it was 4' to 6' and there were a few surf-prises out there...  Could be another good one mañana...   Lost Boys & Co... C huck's grandson Anderson was so into the bulldozers digging up the berm this morning, that he ran with the Professor all the way down to see them...  C lear skies and 0ver 20 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore all day 9 to 16kts and the sea surface was choppy.  The air was a wind driven 54.3 and the water is 59.2.  High tide was at 6:44am +4.6' and low tide followed at1:43pm +0.0' setting up for minus tides for a few days.  We have a diminishing WSW swell out of 241º that was 7.5' this morning and should be about 3.5' mañana...   Lost Boys & Co... A little date night trip to the Laurel Tavern.  Here we have LoLa and Chef Ivan who was doing prep this evening...  Dinner looked like this:  Chopped Salad, Smoked Brussels Sprouts and the meat and cheese platter.  A cocktail and later an ice cream across the street at Paradis makes for a fine evening... 10 miles visibility this morning under mostly cloudy skies.  Winds wee on early variable from 3 to 15kts and the sea surface was bumped to lightly choppy.  The air temperature was 58.7 and the water is 60.3, but might have a hard time staying that warm with all this wind.  March is living up to it's reputation!  High tide is at 5:50am +4.3' and low tide will be at 1:08pm +0.3'.  This morning the swell was out of 274º west at 2.6' and that has been growing steadily all day until it hit 5.2' this evening.  The morning surf will depend mostly on the wind.  If it's offshore, it could be all time.  If it's on, it'll be a mess...  Chec

M eanwhile, cloudy and rain off and on during the day.  Visibility variable to 5 miles.  Winds were offshore most of the morning to 4.3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 56.3 and the water is 60.3.  Low tide is at 12:25pm +0.6' and high tide is late at 7:30pm +3.3' as the tide re-align themselves for the week.  We have an increasing SW swell out of 199º at 2.3' and the surf was 2' and too close to the shore for most of the morning.  Should be building tomorrow and peak on Thursday as the weather passes through...  Stay tuned...   Lost Boys & Co... S o today is the Vernal Equinox and you'd think that the night and day are equal lengths.  Nay, nay!  Because the earth is relatively spherical depending on your latitude equal day and night happens at different times and dates based on your location.  Redondo Beach is around 33º North, so our equal day and night happened on March 16th for the Vernal Equinox and September 26th or the 27th for the Autumnal Equinox. 35° North    Mar 16 - Sep 26 30° North    Mar 16 - Sep 27 C loudy this morning and about 5 miles visibility.  Winds were on early, variable to 5.2kts and the sea surface was bumped by the wind.  The air temperature was 57.5 and the water is 60.4.  Low tide was at 11:21am +1.0' and high tide is late at 7:01pm +3.0'.  We have a slowly building swell that's supposed to peak around 5' - 6' sometime on Thursday.  Currently we have a SSW swell out of 199º at 2.6' and it was 1' to 2'.  Rain predicted for late Tuesday and th

Lost Boys & Co... O ne year ago today, we have Fin-Dizzle and Mexico Mike Murphy standing on the bluff overlooking Sam Lord's Bay and wondering if there was going to be a break in the onshore wind.  The good news is that since Barbados is an island, if it's onshore on the east side, you can guess what's happening out west... T he ghastly crumb foggies this morning as we tried to see the surf.  Visibility was 100yds and variable to a little farther if you headed east.  Winds were out of the SE by 2.3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was a moist 56.6 and the water is 59.2.  Low tide was at 7:13am +0.9' and high tide will follow at 1:15pm +3.2'.  We have a SW swell out of 234º at 3.0' and it was just about that in the surfline...  But a lot foggier... E veryone likes to talk about the biggest waves they've ever ridden, but sometimes small waves can make it a standout session.  This was on the northwest coast of Barbados near Speightstown on the typically calm western side of the island.  We hadn't expected any waves here, so we dove for a coupl

Lost Boys & Co... W e mentioned Redondo Pole Vaulter Tate Curran in our last posting and we discovered this morning that Tate won the Nike Invitational Meet and in doing so set a new South Bay record at 17'3/4"!  That betters South High's Steve Smith's 16'9" and puts Tate in pretty exclusive company.  The Mira Costa Games are this coming weekend and Tate will be there trying for new heights (literally!)  We still think he's a better surfer than a pole vaulter... E nough with the foggies already!  100 yards visibility and onshore winds by 5.1kts.  The sea surface was gray.  The air temperature was 54.5 and the water was 58.8.  Low tide was at 5:42am +0.0' and high tide was at 11:42am +4.3'.  We have a slightly increasing SW swell out of 222º at 2.0' and it was 1' to 2' and not so deluxe...  maybe mañana...   Lost Boys & Co... T his is the kind of thing that goes on in the Azores all the time.  On feast days they let a bull or two loose in the streets and the local lads tease them and the bulls give chase.  Dare we say that most of the locals have had a bit much vino, so their speed and depth perception are a bit compromised.  This young fellow decided that rather than lose a footrace to this 1,000 pound dreadnought, he'd make it for the water.  Unfortunately, like dogs, horses and moose, bulls can swim.  Also this bull has timed his leap for maximum advantage.  The one thing our boy has on his side is fear and it has apparently allowed him to walk on water for some distance... P ersistent fog for the last few days and honestly, it's getting a bit tiring.  The fog did break occasionally and opened up for the morning session with offshore winds at 2kts and smooth to glassy surface conditions.  The air temperature was 55.4 and the water has reached the magic 60º mark.  Low tide

Lost Boys & Co... T here we were at Tower 12 and Jetski noticed that they had hung some of our favorite artwork...  Oh yeah, the food was good too and the beach/plantation ambiance was nice...  Beats the hell out of F.F.F.F. and none of that Boston stuff...  C'mon... this is the beach... F riday the 13th is famously bad luck, but how about Monday the 13th?  Almost sounds worse... F ogging this morning and awfully short on visibility.  Winds were on and moist at 3.3kts and the sea surface was gray.  The air temperature was 55.8 and the water is warming up at 59.7.  High tide is at 10:28am +5.2' and low tide, if you can see it, will be at 4:45pm +0.0'.  We have a SW swell out of 230º at 2.3' and if we had to guess we'd say that was about it, if not a tad smaller...   Lost Boys & Co... W e THOUGHT we were going to Shade for Happy Hour this week until LoLa called for reservations and they told us they were booked solid!  But not to worry.  A few well placed calls and voila! we'll be dining at Samba on the patio on the last Friday before the time change.  5:30pm (now next week it will even be lighter at 5:30, so our options may expand to meet our quaffing needs...) A few high clouds this morning with 20 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the NE by 2.1kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 54.9 and the water is trying desperately to warm up at 57.0.  High tide was at 6:46am +5.7' and low tide will follow at 1:39pm -0.9'.  It's a WSW swell out of 250º at 2.6' and the high tide wasn't letting much happen.  With any luck the swell will be a little stronger mañana and a few good ones might slip through...   Lost Boys & Co... W hen life gives you stones, build a gate...  Playa El; Tunco, El Salvador... 20 miles visibility with a few high clouds.  Winds wee light offshore by 5.1kts and the sea surface was rolling glassy.  The air temperature was 50.9 (up 6 degrees from yesterday), but the water has stayed at 56.7.  5:54 am for high tide and it was a +5.5', but the swell still broke through.  12:11pm low tide at -0.5'.  Full moon on Saturday the 12th.  We have a WSW swell out of 251º at 3.0' and it was 3' to 4' and was "fun-lite" to actually fun... P hoto #2 was inaccurately labeled "Ripping."  It features the Professor, whose last instance of ripping involved an old Billabong wetsuit and a fin, holding a surfboard that is 2' too short for him and missing several cubic inches of float.  He is looking for the rightful owner of this stick so that he can switch back and not drown before he gets to the outside...  The wave of the day went to Aus

Lost Boys & Co... W e live in strange times... 20 miles visibility with a few clouds.  Winds were calm early and the sea surface still had a bit of bump from the winds the night before.  The air temperature was 44.4 and the water is 56.8, just like a real winter.  High tide was at 4:52am 5.2' and low tide will be at 12:11pm -0.5'.  There's a SW swell out of 226º at 3.6' and it was 3' to 5' outside and it appears that the swell is diminishing a bit. Marching In Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... T ypically March comes in like a lion or a lamb, but this is Southern California and this year it came in like a car chase...  Car chases are always big news in So. Cal.  Maybe it started with O.J., but it's escalated since then.  Improved helicopter coverage, web feeds and better long distance lenses on the cams, all have made it quite exciting.  So you can imagine the thrill that ran through the crowd at Brother's this morning when the alleged carjacker turned down Pier Ave. and headed toward Burrito Nirvana.  Everyone ran to Hermosa Blvd. to watch the event.  But the perpetrator was clever and turned back toward Manhattan when he discovered Becker's wasn't open yet.  The disappointment was palpable.  But just when we had given up, the guy turned left at North End, waved to the hockey players and headed back south down Hermosa Blvd.  This time Clark the Meth Hunter and his trusty canine Jenx and the Professor ran to the end of 11th St. in time
