Marching In Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Typically March comes in like a lion or a lamb, but this is Southern California and this year it came in like a car chase...  Car chases are always big news in So. Cal.  Maybe it started with O.J., but it's escalated since then.  Improved helicopter coverage, web feeds and better long distance lenses on the cams, all have made it quite exciting.  So you can imagine the thrill that ran through the crowd at Brother's this morning when the alleged carjacker turned down Pier Ave. and headed toward Burrito Nirvana.  Everyone ran to Hermosa Blvd. to watch the event.  But the perpetrator was clever and turned back toward Manhattan when he discovered Becker's wasn't open yet.  The disappointment was palpable.  But just when we had given up, the guy turned left at North End, waved to the hockey players and headed back south down Hermosa Blvd.  This time Clark the Meth Hunter and his trusty canine Jenx and the Professor ran to the end of 11th St. in time to snap him coming and going (#1 & #2).  They were waving at him to turn right down 11th and drive by Brother's to delight the curious and anxious crowd there gathered.  But he was nursing a flat front tire and had apparently had breakfast already and shot by at a roaring 7mph, with police in rapt pursuit...  They finally caught him at PV Drive and PCH, but not before he did a great reverse getaway between Ruby and Sapphire Streets...  Great theatre!

Bright sunny morning with 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the NNE by 5.0kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was a chilly 44.5 and the water is holding at an equally chilled 57.6.  High tide was at 10:48am +4.8' and low tide will be at 5:01pm +0.3'.  We have a SW swell out of 220º at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' with some nice lefts angling down the beach...

In one of the great cosmic reversals of our time, the sun went down and instead of there being a "green flash", everything else turned green and the sun stayed yellow...
