Lost Boys & Co... #1 could be anywhere, but if it's 80ยบ's it's not here... C lear skies and 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were persistent out of the north by 7.2kts and the sea surface had a bit of a bump that miraculously eased up for about an hour late morning.  The air temp was a chilly 50.4 and the water is 57.2, also chilly.  High tide was at 10:02am +5.3' and low tide was at 4:27pm -0.2'.  We have a SW swell out of 216ยบ at 3.9' and it was 3' to 4', with some nice fat ones before the tide floated things to the sand.  How will March come in?  Check it out maรฑana... S ometimes seeing the "Pac Coast Hwy" sign is all you need to know you're home... F eet eating socks...  This is putting your foot in it's mouth, like the opposite of putting a sock in it... O vercast this morning and it almost looks like it might rain (like that's never happened.)  5 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 3.6kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature is 50.0 and feels colder and the water is 57.7.  High tide is at 9:20am +5.7' and low tide will be at 3:54pm -0.6'.  We have a 3.0' WSW swell out of 237ยบ.  Tide's a bit high but it was 2' to 3' and there were a couple of good ones... H appy hour is at Shade (next to the Cheesecake Factory) at 5:30pm.  Make sure you wear your woollies.  You'll need them if we don't get a fireplace... 20 miles visibility under clear skies.  Winds were calm at checkout, but the surface was still a bit bumped.  The air temp was 38.3 (yeah, you read that right) and the water was 58.8.  High tide was at 7:29am +5.6' and low tide will follow at 2:24pm -0.7'.  We have a 4.3' west swell out of the west at 271ยบ.  It was 3' to 4' between the bumps and fun enough for the conditions... I t was only a matter of time before Californglish superseded Spanglish.  In all fairness it incorporates a bit of Spanglish as well.  Lesson #1 is included.  Yeah, yeah...   Lost Boys & Co... Y ahoo, little buddy!  Nothing like a surf session on Lake Eufala, in Oklahoma.  This young thrasher looks prepared for any eventuality, considering the vest, comfort animal (with own personal vest) and what looks like a epoxy fish firmly under foot...  Great shot considering there must have been a boat at some point in this experience...  Oh yeah, except during tornado season...  On second thought, keep the vest on... W ho said it was supposed to rain this morning?  Come on, give us a break.  Although the wind was on by 1.9kts the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 55.1 and the water is holding at 59.0.  High tide was at 5:32am +4.7' and low tide was at 12:52pm +0.1'.  There will be minus tides for the rest of the month in the afternoons.  We have a WSW swell out of 252ยบ at 4.6' and it was 4' to 6' depending on your location. A cross a wide swath of this country is, well... nothing, but there is a lot of wind.  Of course these

Lost Boys & Co... S unday let up a bit for a minute between squalls and Hermosa turned the light on (#1).  The only trouble was that to get out you had to have jets, a tow or jump off the pier...  In the old days when you could tie a boat up to the pier (the old pier) they had a stairway that lowered down to the water.  Even if it wasn't all the way down, it was still only 10' above the water and you could jump that...  Now it's too high...  For us... C loudy and drizzlations.  Winds were strong off by 8kts and the sea surface was smoothish.  The air temperature was 55.6 and the water is 59.0.  Only a low tide today at 12:15pm +0.6'.  We have a diminishing WSW swell out of 251ยบ at 4.3' and it was 3' to 4' and smacking at low tide #2 is from around 1969 or 70.  We have the Professor, Paul Hyashi and Boomfwappa getting ready to go out at California street in Ventura.  While they were out the wind came up and blew them half-way down the coast.  The ride

Lost Boys & Co... I t's raining.  It's all the weather people have been talking about.  Personally, we're thinking, "Maybe a little sun?"  That is instead of 1 mile visibility and cloudy skies.  Winds blasting out of the SE by 20kts and the sea surface being buffeted to a reverse chop.  The air temp is 57.3 and the water at 59.2.  Low tide is at 8:23am +1.6' and high tide will follow at 2:01pm +2.8'.  Right now the buoy has us with a WSW swell out of 251ยบ at 5.9' with the waves at 4' to 5'.  They should continue to get bigger throughout the day peaking around 4pm at 10'.  The best day might be tomorrow when it is supposed to be offshore all day long and the surf is supposed to range between 7' to 9'.  If you're lucky you might even catch somebody like Trevor LaShure at Burnout (#1) launching himself into one of these gaping barrels.  This is classic South Bay, with a perfect right heading into a perfect left.  Can you imag

Lost Boys & Co... " H ey Coach, thank you for letting me be yellow because now I match my surfboard!" C loudy this morning and the weather looked uncertain all morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were persistent out of the SW at 5.7kts and the sea surface sported a light chop.  The air temp was 53.2 and the water is 58.8.  Low tide was at 5:57am +1.4' and high tide followed at 11:43am +4.6'.  We have a WSW swell out of 238ยบ at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' this morning.  It's supposed to be building, capping around 10' on Saturday afternoon.  Woo woo... T his (#2) is what is what is described as a "Nug" in surf terminology.  That would be short for a nugget.  And that would be a contraction of the phrase "gold nugget" to describe a really great wave, maybe one you don't often find.  Well, Joey went a couple of thousand miles to find this "nug" and allowed it was one of the best waves he's ever caught.  Th

Lost Boys & Co... I n an action packed surf contest this morning Redondo vied with Mira Costa for the Bay League title.  Redondo took off to an early lead and then in the third heat the Costa girls went 1-2-3 and we were suddenly 7 points behind.  The men's longboard had Redondo's Ryan Hughes edging out Tate Curran for first place and now Redondo was 2 points behind.  Lately bodyboarding has seemed to take a back seat in the competitions, but it was critical in this contest.  Kyle Beatty with a couple of  signature moves and a new haircut got first and Redondo was now 1 point behind.  It was the girls turn again, but one thing you don't want to do is make Emma Waldinger mad.  The Costa girls did their level best, but they couldn't get around Emma and she got first with a long left that had the crowd on their feet.  But Costa got 2-3-4 meaning that they actually outscored the girls by 3 points.  Going into the 7th heat it was Redondo's turn to go 2-3-4 and now

Lost Boys & Co... Y ep, you turn around and it's Monday, just like that...  But every night is Saturday night in Nashville.  Especially at Robert's Boots and Beers (#1) where Robert wasn't in but everybody else was.  The bands don't get payed a salary.  Nope.  They play for tips!  So if they play crappy they don't get paid (as much.)  So you can bet everybody was playing like their pocketbooks depended on it... C lear as the proverbial bell this morning with 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the SE by 2.2kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 50.0 and the water is 58.6.  High tide was at 10:20am 5.3' and low tide is at 4:55pm -0.2'.  We have a west swell out of 264ยบ at 3.3' and it was 3' to 4' with the occasional peak before the high tide... P robably the most famous bar in Nashville is Tootsie's (#2.)  It got famous because it backs up to the alley behind the Ryman Auditorium, which is the home to the

Lost Boys & Co... H appy Hour tonight at Laurel Tavern.  5:30pm.  A nice warm place to spend the evening with friends... From Coach Avery...  I n foggy conditions with high tide waves, our Sea Hawk Surf Team had a great victory over Palos Verdes 93-75.  This is only the 2nd time we have beaten them in the last 7 years.  With this win, we are still undefeated in the SBSSA and have a contest next week against Mira Costa to determine the League Championship!  I have attached the full heat sheet results along with the standout performers. Heat 2: Shortboard       1st Kyle Beatty Heat 3: Shortboard 1st Emma Waldinger Heat 4: Longboard 1st Tate Curran Heat 5: Bodyboard 1st Kyle Beatty Heat 7: Shortboard  1st Nathaniel Harris A n half mile visibility this morning with cloudy skies, but no rain until later in the day.  Winds were out of the NW by 2.1kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 57.1 and the water is 59.0.  High tide was at 8:20am +6.4' and

Half mile visibility and light winds out of the NW at 3.2kts.  The sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 58.6 and the water is 59.2.  High tide was at 6:51am +6.3' and low tide will be at 1:57pm -1.3'.  We have a slightly building WSW swell out of 255ยบ at 3.0' and it was bigger than that at 3' to 5' and broke right through the high tide. S urf contest maรฑana.  It'll be P.V.   Lost Boys & Co... P hoto #1 today is the Delaware Bridge/Tunnel.  We started in Boston and in the process of making our way down to Norfolk Va. we decided to take the coastal route.  For your consideration:  No shortage of seafood, lots of flat water and few waves... H ere we go again...  cloudy and rainy, although not as intense as yesterday.  Winds out of the SW by 5.1kts and the sea surface is choppy and uneven.  The air temperature is 57.3 and the water is steady at 58.6.  High tide was at 6:01am +6.0' and low tide will be at 1:15pm -0.9'.  All the pm low tides will be minuses this week for you beachcombers and clam diggers.  We have a 3.6' swell out of the WSW 252ยบ and that creating basically 3' wind waves with poor shape.  Now if you were paying attention yesterday, it settled down around 2pm and the wind changed.  It was good for about an hour and Billy Mac says Ave C was happening.  Pay attention... H appy hour on Friday will convene at the Laurel Tavern a

Lost Boys & Co... O kay, we're back from our tour across this great country of ours...  We must say we had some startling revelations.  But if you're going to be relevated, there's no one better to do it with than Boomfwappa Miller.  Yes, Boomfwappa and the Professor traveled from Boston to California taking up most of a week with conversation, music and sightseeing (and yes, a shitload of driving.)  So, first revelation:  Gas is a hell of a lot cheaper everywhere other than California.  Why?  Because the oil companies can tell a golden goose when they see one.  Now, if you're in Arkansas gas prices look like photo #1.  Except this wasn't the cheapest we saw.  No, the cheapest we saw was just outside of Toad Suck Park, Ark. and it was $1.91.9.  We are not making any of that up...  Toad Suck Park is a place, has a sign and an offramp.  We did NOT take that offramp, because we couldn't imagine how anyone could put those three words together on the same sign.
