San-O Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Sometimes you're praying for surf and suddenly you find yourself in San Onofre and it's a solid 4' with bigger outsides.  People are on 10'+ logs flying around like nobody's business and you're just trying to find a spot where you can get some waves and try this whole new place out.  I can can be a challenge, daunting and often discouraging, but if you keep trying, sooner or later it all comes together...  And if not here, some other place that's just right for you...  We've all been there...  (photo:  LoLa for The Existential Church Of Chumash Bingo)

Partly cloudy this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light onshore to 3.2kts and the sea surface started out smooth, but got progressively bumpy as the morning waned.  The air temp was in the 70's and the water was 72.1˚.  High tide was at 9:51am +4.3' and low tide followed at 2:53pm +1.7'.  We enjoyed a SSW swell out of 209˚ at 3.3'  but there were outsides that were ear-high and lefts and rights to try your best pin-ball moves...

But it wasn't all fun and games.  Nope, there was music as well.  Here we have Buck Delameter on the button box playing the rousing Slovenian melody, "Marička Pegla."  In fact he is going to Slovenia this year and will be sending reports on his travels as he searches for the elusive "Box Fir" used to build the authentic Slovenian instruments...  "Fir" not "fur"...
