The Earth Wobbles Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So the Lost Boy Eclipse Chasers, South Bay Chapter gathered on the banks of the Payette River in Cascade, Idaho and managed to experience the whole show from the front row.  Photo #1 & #2 are from Ape Walti's rig as the sun was obscured in totality.  Our location was slated for 1:58:06 of totality and it was all of that.  #3 was also taken from Walti's camera as the sun popped and created the "diamond ring" phenomenon.  Through Little Warren's 8" reflector telescope you could see the dripping effect that the mountains and valleys on the moon create as it passes in front of the sun.  The next eclipse in the USA will be in 2024, but in two years there will be one in Chile and Argentina.  Start working on your Spanish...

Hazy sun this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the SW at 2.3kts and the sea surface was slightly bumped.  The air temperature was 64.9 and the water has dropped to 67.8.  Some warm weather on tap so we might have one more jump before it starts falling serious-like.  High tide was at 6:54am +3.4' and low tide was fast on it's heels at 10:58am +2.9'.  We have a SSW swell out of 195º at 3.3' and it was 2' to 3' and sand blasting every opportunity fort a decent ride.  Captain Donaldo goes in for ear surgery tomorrow and it should be three to four weeks until he's back in the water.  He is predicting excellent surf starting Thursday...

Happy hour this week will be at our perennial hangout "Samba."  Drop by, say "Hi" to Mark and "Goodbye" to Mike and Sarah who'll be heading to Dallas for the foreseeable future...  5:30 on the patio...
