A Three Color Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The second dose of the Covid vaccine went as prescribed and at present we are running through all of the possible reactions to the shot.  Currently we are experiencing chills and lower back pain.  That was until we heard that the back pain is typically in the shoulder region so our discomfort has moved to that area in response.  We should mention that this week's meeting of Hypochondriacs Anonymous will be in the Tiki Bar tomorrow evening and we anticipate further symptoms in all their glory in the meantime...  "Hi, I'm Frank and I'm a Hypochondriac..."

Meanwhile, we decided to take a bike ride in the sunshine to see what was happening in the bubble.  There appeared to be a tournament going on at 16th St. (#1) that had more than fifty people, few people were wearing masks and contestants were seen yelling, grunting and forcibly broadcasting their germy aerosols into the air...  Looks good if you're planning a gathering of more than fifty folks and worried about a super-spreader event...  We know a couple of people...

Clear skies and 15 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the NE by 3.2kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 46.9º and the water is currently 57.0º.  High tide was at 7:32am +6.0' and low tide follows at 2:34pm -1.1' for some excellent sea glass foraging.  We have a SW swell out of 202º at 3.3' and it was 3' with some high tide rollers and some of those outside sneakers we've been avoiding all week...

In the midst of our reconnoitering, we managed to get this shot (#2) of a couple of great jumps by these volleyball competitors!  Beau Bridges has nothing to worry about...

So, we're mostly minding our own business, when at Harbor Dr. and King Harbor Way this car tries to turn down the bike path, heading south, almost running over a gaggle of cyclists.  We're watching this, remarking how incapacitated you'd have to be to make a mistake like that.  That is until we got down a couple of blocks to Harbor Dr. and the entrance to the Ruby's Parking lot, where this other guy was pulled over by the police.  As you can see (#3) there are several red flags here.  Paramount might be the fact that he appeared to be motoring along the bike path.  As near as we can tell he had twice as many wheels on the pavement as typical and they were attached to his car.  That, being more than we can say about his bumper, which looks like it's hanging on by a piece of gum.  We have no idea at which point on his wild ride he marcelled the front end.  We also have no idea if driver #1 and driver #2 knew each other, but they might get a chance to meet in the cooler if we have any idea about these things...  Finally, we heard the police officer asking the perp, "WHAT'S YOUR NAME?"  Our experience suggests that they only do this when they don't have a license they can read it from...
