Furioso Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Every once in a while an underdog comes along and upsets the heavy favorite.  It happens so rarely that they make movies about stuff like that.  You might recall that when we were in El Salvador, we went to a Metapan (El Salvador) Vs the Honduran national team.  Metapan won.  That got them into the Champions League of North America.  So last night they played Mexico City D.F. Pumas and E.S. was the big underdog.  Even the El Salvadorians were hoping they would make a decent showing and not get waxed too badly.  The game started out tentatively, but then all of a sudden Metapan started to press and when covered by FIVE (count'em), 5 defenders, the Metapan forward spun around and smacked a line-drive into the net.  No shit!  Whoa - we all went wild!  But there was a lot of game left and the Puma's were pissed.  But they could find any feets and they bumped around fouling themselves uncontrollably.  Suddenly, on a sweet pass and a surprise header, Metapan scored again!  Now everyone is REALLY nuts!  But there's like, 20 minutes to play.  That's a long time...  Now, the Chillango's are beyond pissed.  They really turn up the heat and predictably they score.  Shit, we're only ahead by one point.  Well, to make a long story just a little shorter, we held them off and El Salvador won 2 to 1!  Great stuff!  They have a rematch coming up soon, but we're up for a while anyway...  Yosh and the Professor sport their colors...

Unlimited visibility this morning under clear skies.  Winds were offshore by 3.0 kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temp was an unseasonably warm 52.9°  and the water is an unseasonably chilly 54.1°.  High tide is at 9:35am +5.2' and low tide will follow at 3:39pm -0.1'.  Our buoy reads a WSW swell out of 238° at 1.6' and we're calling it 1' and poor...  Maybe tomorrow...

Somehow a cleaver doesn't seem to describe this object as well as the German, "hackmesser."  No, we just bought the bread knife...

Finally, we got this photo from Big Wave Dave.  This is how we got it and it's upside-downness seems to somehow add to the whole levitational effect.

Rumors of happy hour tonight, but we don't know where or when.  Maybe somewhere where we can bike maybe...
