Miserlou Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

"Surfer's Choice" was the first surf LP I ever bought.  I got it from Ronnie Hall, who no doubt wishes HE had it today...  It's in the Tiki Bar, take a look.  Yes, Dick Dale (Richard Mansour) has passed from this vale, no doubt riding on the next wave into eternity.  He influenced Jimmy Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn among numerous others and "Miserlou" has become a surfing anthem...  A consummate showman, he played most of the instruments on his albums.  We saw him several times and he always electrified the crowd...  He surfed a bit and we always loved the story about him being ripped off at Doheny (where they ransacked his car) and him jumping up and down yelling, "I'm Dick Dale, I'm one of you."  Yeah, well he had some better shit than the rest of us and somebody didn't care who he was...  (The Professor)

Clear skies and high tide this morning.  Winds were offshore by 3.3kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was 53.9 and the water is 57.2.  High tide was at 7:48am +6.0' and low tide goes negative at 2:41pm -1.2'.  We have a 3' swell out of 243º WSW and it was breaking right on the sand...  Maybe as the tide goes out...

About 200 years of mustaches in this pic (#2).  The Professor, John Lenninger and Doc Scale, helped bid farewell to Bob Rich last Friday night at Becker's...

#3 Bobby gets a farewell surfboard from Ché.  It wasn't lost on anyone that it was a Barahona and NOT a Becker...

The St. Paddy's parade this year featured the Budweiser Clydesdale's (#4).  Really cool unless you were parked behind them.  They had to go all the way down 11th street and turn around on the sand because they were too long to make the turn on 11th and the alley!

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
The Professor!!
