Lost Boys & Co...

If you're still wondering why we give it a day or two before going in the water after a rain, take a look at this (#1) shot of the outfall just south of the pier in Hermosa.  There was finally enough rain to get this puppy to blow last night.  Considering how long since the last big rain, there was a copious amount of evil lurking in the pipe.  This isn't even remotely the outfall with the biggest watershed.  The Chart House pipe probably covers about four times the area and can really unleash some nasty detritus.  Likewise, the Torrance Beach pipe can run black for a couple of days.  Are we going to give it a couple of days?  That, of course, depends on the quality of the surf, not the water...

Let's start with the tides, low at 10:32am 2.8' and it's high at 3:23pm 3.7'.  Gray and raining this morning with 5 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 5 to 9kts making for some nice little manes on the waves (#2).  We have a SSW swell out of 204º at 3.6' and it was 2' to 3' and if you were brave enough to jump in, you might have gotten a couple of sweet little sections...

Jetski immediately noted the contradiction with the Christmas tree and the caution tape (#3).  Was it, "Merry Christmas, but be careful" or possibly "Approach Christmas with caution".  It could also be tree-eccentric with "Don't touch my balls!"

We're headed out to Dallas for a few days for the Lake Ray Hubbard Texi-Logfest, so the report will be sketchy to AWOL...  We'll be back with pics, better weather and maybe some waves on Monday...
