Thermal Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

One of the first things we noticed on our cruise to Alaska was the kitschy decor on  the boat.  You might have thought they'd have some totem poles and various cool native American art.  Nope.  They seemed to be ready to bring back some classic Greek ideals.  Our first shot is of a set of caryatids holding up one of the stairwells.  No doubt they were doing a bang-up job holding things up, but they just seemed a bit much.

Lots of gray today.  12 miles visibility and heavy overcast.  Looks like it might not break up for a while this morning.  Winds were onshore from the get-go by 3.9kts getting things fairly rough and tacky early.  The air temp was 60.1° and the water was 64.8°.  Low tide this morning was at 6:15am -1.4' and high tide will follow at 12:54pm +4.3'.  The swell is coming out of 187° at 2' and it's not making it all the way to the beach.  It's 1' and poor.

Our second photo is an idyllic scene featuring this garish bench with 2 satyrs on each end..  Where do you get this kind of furniture?  Maybe people just gobble it up when it becomes available and you just never see it on display.  Hmmm...  maybe not.

Notes to the Editor:

I have it on good authority that porcupines cannot shoot their spines - except for the rare Goodyera pubescens that can be found only within 100 yards of the Governor's mansion in Juneau. Wow what a find!!!
Glad 2 have u back!
Xena

(Thanks Xena!  Glad to find that out NOW!)

Hi Frank,
May I politely point out the correct spelling of my last name.  It is Covelli-no a.
Thank you.
Will you and Annie be holding your July 4th gathering this year. I'd like to invite myself...what do you think?
Carol

(Yes you mayActually, this is the SECOND time you have politely reminded us of the spelling.  Next time you probably should remind us in CAPS!  Yes, we will be holding the annual July 4th Party on the 4th at 4pm and it will go on until the tiki torches are lit.  Of COURSE you are invited!  It would hardly be a proper party without you.  To be fair we should also remind all the other folks on the list that they're invited as well.)
