Another Friday The Thirteenth Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Tandis Morgan is a surfer-musician-lifeguard-nurse-artist.  She might have to change the order of those accomplishments given her latest work in copper wire and foil.  When we saw her first attempt at this kelp inspired sculpture, we knew we'd have to have one.  She even let us use a rock that we had collected at Rat Beach for the base.  She can make them any size and we could even imagine a floor to ceiling installation that would be spectacular!  If you're looking for the perfect sculpture to add that ocean touch to your environment, you have to see one of these.  Great on the mantle, bar or in that corner where nothing will grow!  If you're interested give the Professor a call and he'll get you in touch with the artist herself!

Just like the stormtroopers said, it's raining out there.  5 miles visibility under cloudy leaking skies.  There's wind as well with strong variable gusts out of the SE at 8 to 10kts.  The call is for gale force winds (over 25kts) after the front passes, so batten down those hatches!  The air was a wind chilled 55.5° and the water didn't need any help from the wind at 57.2°.  Low tide was late at 10:48am +0.0' and high tide follows at 5:51pm +3.8'.  We got some good sea glass yesterday on the low tide and this storm might be just the thing to deposit some new silica.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 207° at 3.6' and the surf is a wind-blown mixture of energy at 2' to 4'.  We hit Hermosa Pier this am with Rasta Pete and Kaio Carter before the tide bottomed out.  Some fun ones - but kinda cold and blowin'...

Samba tonight starting at 5:30pm for an "hora felize."  Always fun to yak with Mark and catch up on the latest Hollywood news.  Also join in the "Count to Danger" as Danger Boy counts off the days until he retires.  Looking at 17 today!   Maybe not the best night to ride your bike if you're worried about melting though...

We have only the foggiest idea what's going on here.  It's a peep-show.  We got that far on our own.  The guy running it, is in turn of the century Chinese costume and the machine itself looks like something Wurlitzer invented.  Only guys would put their money down to take a peek and then they'd jump up laughing and put down another yuan for a second look.  We'd a given it a shot, except the line was long and we had to move on...
