Frostbite Falls Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Last night, in an ongoing effort to prove that Thursday is the new Friday, a group of Lost Boys had dinner at "Guelaguetza," the renowned Oaxacan restaurant on Normandie and Olympic.  Hosted by Juan Castillo, we were treated to mounds of Oaxacan delicacies.  Pictured is the appetizer!  It included chorizo, pork ribs, nopales (cactus pads,) chicken, cecina, piles of Oaxacan mozzarella cheese and several things we're forgetting because we were also plied with strong drink in the form of Oaxacan margaritas.  For the uninitiated, Oaxacan margaritas are much like regular margaritas, except they have as much alcohol as your maiden aunt's cough syrup (50 - 60%?)  After this extravaganza d'carne, we ordered our entrées.  Not that we needed entrées, but we were told that the tlayudas were not to be missed.  Tlayudas are what one might call a Mexican pizza.  A large hand made tortilla, brushed with bacon grease, then covered with your choice of toppings (pork, chicken, beef, fish, veggies, lettuce, cabbage and more mozzarella.)  Forget tostadas, you want to go right to tlayuda...  After all of this, Bobbo Souther, insisted on having the flan.  He must've stuffed it in his wooden leg.  While we're reeling from the protein, Juan picks up the tab and won't let us pay!  Generous beyond belief, we're all trying to figure out how we can possibly repay him.  Maybe we'll just have to go back again and it will be on us!  Olé!

Clear skies and 20+ miles visibility, if you have something that far away that you wish to ogle.  Winds were offshore to 5.1kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was a balmy (no kidding) 61.0˚ and the water was 55.9˚ at the 46221 Buoy but listed at 59˚ on the Hermosa Pier.  Well, it wasn't 59˚, but it also wasn't 55˚, so let's split the difference.  Low tide early at 5:21am +0.5' and high tide will follow at 11:19am +4.0'.  We have a WSW swell out of 243˚ at 2.6' and we're calling it 2' to 4' at the better breaks.  Your job is to find one of those and go there.
