Friday The 13th Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The article on the Kombis came out today and our AFP correspondent Leila (Layla) Macor sent us three flavors of the composition:  English, Spanish and French.  You can take your pick, although we sound really good in French...
Like this...
"Nous tous, les retraités, nous avons grandi avec (le Combi) et nous sommes très nostalgiques. Tout le monde en Californie a une histoire à raconter" sur cette camionnette, ajoute son ami Mark Mitchler. "Tous les types de notre âge...", précise Doug Ball, qui conduit son Combi de 1974 depuis 34 ans.
Original in Spanish:

We included a couple of the photos that Robyn Beck took of the assembled sheet metal and bolts.  In #1 she climbed to the second floor of the Sea Sprite to get a better vantage point and in #2 she climbed into the back of the Tiki Lounge and took a few shots there.  She also took some pictures!  Rumor has it that AFP might be interested in doing a story on learning to surf and the surfing lifestyle.  We're thinking that we know people who could add some color...

So after our 15 minutes of fame on this Friday the 13th, we still have no waves.  Hazy sun and some clouds this morning with 5 miles visibility.Winds were offshore by 5.7kts and the sea surface was a slightly wind buffeted smooth.  The air temp was 48.3˚ and the water was 59.5˚.  High tide was at 6:11am +6.0' and low tide will follow at 1:19pm -0.2' for eight days in a row of minus afternoon tides.  We have a weak west swell out of 262˚ west at 2.6' and it's looking like 1' to 2' and right on shore.  It's supposed to get better... of course the longer it stays small the better chance we have of being right...
