Manchego Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

This is the kind of a hill you find in Hermosa Beach in the middle of December.  It's supposed to be covered with snow and there's supposed to be professional snowboarders and kids sliding down the hill.  But it didn't snow when they thought it would.  That is until the snow man showed up and showed us how it was done...  The snow came from Long Beach, not exactly known for it's perfectly groomed slopes, but one of the nations great ice producers...

Partly cloudy this morning with almost 20 miles visibility.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was a warmish 63.8˚ and the water wasn't bad at 58.3˚.  High tide was at 7:52am +6.2' and low tide will be at 3:05pm -0.6'.  We have a west swell out of 274˚ at 2.6', but it's hitting square-on and breaking 3' to 5' at the better spots and nothing at the worst spots...  Hermosa was long walls and crashy outsides.  If you're lucky, you get the window that opens for about 45 minutes, with long shoulders and lefts through the pier...  You brave enough to shoot the pier?...  Not us...

Like nine days until Christmas and five to the winter solstice.  Both deserve a bit of celebration...
