Just Not Themselves Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

For years we've been trooping across the floor at Brother's in our wetsuits to hand Ivan our car keys.  Then when you get out of the water, one of the guys throws the keys at you so you don't have to walk dripping across the floor.  Depending on how frozen your hands are, you either catch the keys or let them bounce on the pavement.  But that came to a halt a couple of weeks ago with the installation of a key safe to the left of the front door.  Now you just put them in the safe and go surfing and retrieve them when you get out...  Just like that...

A beautiful May morning with almost 20 miles visibility and partly cloudy skies.  Winds were offshore at 8.1kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temp was 59.3 and the water was 60.3 at the buoy.  Of course Roddy had it posted on the Hermosa Pier at 67º, but no one was buying that.  Low tide was at 7:21am -0.1' and high tide follows at 2:21pm +3.5'.  We had a west swell out of 265º at 3.6' and it was a solid 3' to 4' with some bigger ones about every ten minutes.  One of the best mornings of the year, it looked like textbook Hermosa.  Remember that the Fiesta is this weekend, so no parking on 11th St...

Tracey and Ire (Rasta) Pete at his birthday bash at the Lighthouse on Wednesday evening.  Great baked treats, fabulous reggae music and excellent potables...  Petey makes 61 look easy...

Happy hour at Samba this Friday at 5:30pm on the patio.  They've been making some upgrades, so we're hoping that it's up to speed...  If not we'll punt...

No way of knowing if this shot was planned or was just good (or bad) luck.  Bottom line:  this young lady is about to get the crumb doughnut treatment.  A good example of macro-derm abrasion, she should have all those rough edges sanded down to a fine patina...

So, for the month of June we'll be doing some recon work in Europe!  Holland and France and then surf checks in Portugal and Sardinia.  We'll be with Marco and Raquel for their nuptials in Porto and then on to visit Gabri Carta at his surf school in Cagliari, Sardinia.  We're going to try to access our technology from these far-flung spots, but as usual it will probably be spotty at best.  So expect the report to catch up again early in July!
