A Tantalizing Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

During the construction of Mt. Voorhees (the name given to the berm in front of the Lifeguard Headquarters, after the Captain who commissioned the initial emplacement,) this pond (#1) appeared at the base of the berm.  The high tide had filled in the low area in front of the dune and it was low enough that the water couldn't drain away.  This posed a problem, since the earth moving equipment couldn't fill it from the north or south (and obviously, from the west, where there was a lot more water) because of the tide.  They ended up pushing the top of the berm down to fill in the pond and building it back up from the east...  An engineering marvel it will insure that we will not have a swell of any size until it is removed...

10 miles visibility this morning as the clouds start to roll in.  Winds were off for the morning session, but have turned from the west and are predicted to blow to 20 to 25mph by mid-day tomorrow.  The air temperature was 58.5 and the water is 65.1.  Low tide was at 8:35am +3.2' and high tide was at 2:02pm +4.7'.  This morning there was a SSW swell out of 206º at 3.0'.  It's been steadily rising and by 10pm it's coming through at 6' at the 46221 Santa Monica Buoy.  Give it a check in the morning and wear your rain gear...

Day #30 for the Professor (#2) as he completes his #sliffsurfchallenge.  He is happy to have participated and completed his obligation before the drains opened up.  There is something about going out every day, whether it's good or not, that is rather inspirational.  Of course among the locals, many who believe he had gone off the deep end (literally and figuratively) he has some reputation of going out on questionable days anyway...  Why stop now...

#3 Is our guess about how things will look in the morning as the clouds roll in and the wind really starts to kick up.  We are guessing it will be a good morning for pozolé and mugs of hot coffee...

Laurel Tavern this week for your dining and drinking pleasure...  Have you had the club sandwich?  Bring a friend and share it with some fries...
