Pirate Palaver Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Every once-in-a-while something comes along that just throws your life sideways.  It can be a big thing or it can be a seemingly inconsequential book that someone you always thought had your best interests at heart, like Keeks Lagatree, sends your way...  "Talk Like A Pirate" (#1) is one of those tings, ahh, things...  It's been a ner a week, yar, since we been r'edin' this here tome, and we're still yarkin' like a pi-rate...

At checkout we're having 5 miles visibility under cloudy/rainy skies.  Winds were howlin' onshore at 17 to 24kts and the sea surface was wild and boisterous.  The air temperature was 61.0 and the water is 64.6.  Low tide be dredging the bilge at 10:11am +2.6' and high tide will be floating through the scuppers at 3:36pm +4.6'.  There's bein' a west swell out of 270º at 8.5'.  From the crow's nest we could see it breakin' 8 to 10 feet and it would shiver your timbers...

Our photo #2, would be bein' the view from the pier in Hermosa.  If'n you're being sharp eyed you can see the buoy stretching on it's tether in the middle left of the pic-ture...  Are you knowin' how far out that buoy sits?  Well, it's a far piece and it's well inside where the waves were breakin'...

Here (#3), we're having a view from Mt. Voorhees (named after Capt. Voorhees himself) of the surf pounding the newly minted berm...  It was being a wild and monkey-licking scene...

But like things do, in the afternoon the wind was turnin' about and by 2pm it was straight OFF-shore.  You can see the manes on these combers (#4) as they flew into the bay at Topaz and Sapphire...  If you were being lucky, you might have caught a few of those beauties!  Aargh, me hearties...

We'll be pilfering and garglin' pints of amber ale at Laurel Tavern this Friday...  We're expecting you to heave to, and pull up alongside, lest we find the need to comment on the state of your jib...  You're not wanted that...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
