Another Friday The 13th Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Nothing like coming back home to temperatures that were a full 40º colder than where you were (#1. Jetski and Tarsan bundled up for the first morning back).  In this case it was Saladitas, that famous spot first seen in "Siestas & Olas" and the destination for some of the most memorable Lost Boy surf trips...  This year the crew consisted of Jah Morgan, Christian, Leigh, Kaitlin, Bianca, Tarsan, Doc ?, Jetski, LoLa and the Professor.  Kaitlin, Leigh and Bianca are all on the women's tour and Jah and Christian are near the top in California.  So it was a pretty talented group that hit the waves...  (notice how we rode some coattails there...)

Clear skies this morning and 10+ miles visibility.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 48.8º and the water is 60.3º.  High tide was at 7:13am +6.5' and low tide follows at 1:50pm -0.4'.  We have a SSW swell out of 195º and the high tide pretty much shut things down.  It was 1' to 2' and breaking right on shore...

How many times have the drivers said, "Airplane wings go in the back."  #2 Gustavo, Lourdes brother, was our chauffeur and even he resisted our pleas for an arrangement that didn't put so much stress on those boards on the bottom.  He remembered the Professor from years past and they had a rather animated conversation recalling some of the characters from other trips...  TJ is often remembered and Peter Schworer has predictably achieved legendary status...

The break at Las Saladitas #3.  Rather amazing that the area around Jacqueline's has really grown and most of the beach properties have been bought up.  Lourdes and Jacqueline own most of the land around the break and Lourdes restaurant has become a focal point for many traveling surfers.  Funny though, you get into the water and it seems like nothing has changed.  Like that one section in the middle that's so hard to get around...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
The Professor!!
