Wharf Rat Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

NO!  They didn't REALLY bury the Pride Tower (#1)!  We just took this snap to scare Baccallao!

This was breakfast in Ragusa (#2).  4 kinds of jelly/jam, 2 varieties of chocolate pastries, 2 cheeses, 2 breakfast meats and your choice of coffee with macaroons.  Our host was Jucy (Like Lucy with a "J") and yes I'll have another latté...

Overcast this morning with less than 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  Air 54.3º, water 62.1º.  High tide 7:30am +6.0' and low tide 2:19pm +0.1'.  Swell is oscillating between the south and west at 3.3' and it was 2' to 3' and fun longboarding surf...

Near Agrigento in the Valley of the Temples this is the Temple of Concordia (#3).  Built in 435 BC, this is one of the best preserved Greek temples anywhere including Greece.  In 597 AD it was turned into a Christian church and was a church for almost 1200 years.  Around the time of Napoleon (and Josephine) there was a return to Neo-classical ideals and it was returned to it's configuration as a temple...   So give it another 1,200 years and we'll see what happens...  We actually took this photo while watching this out-of-control cloudburst a few miles away.  You can see the dark clouds just to the left of the temple...

Then there was the whole episode in Erice.  Here (#4) the Professor points downhill to the place where he landed and proceeded to roll into the diners below.  There's a bit more pitch to the cobblestone floor than you can see in the photo and when he went to reach for his phone, he rolled (chair and all) one and a half revolutions, ending up on his back, legs in the air and arms akimbo.  It was one of the slowest rolls ever witnessed and because of his familiarity with the deleterious effects of gravity, he escaped with a little more than a scratch.  He froze for a long second as waiters, diners and curious onlookers attempted to render assistance.  He waved them off, stood up and announced  "We're here every Tuesday, the next show is at 2 o'clock."  They then proceeded to giggle their way through lunch and several guests apologized for laughing...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
The Professor!!
