A Thug Life Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We're nothing if we're not about capturing first-time events.  Here we have a shot of Oscar Barahona, taking his first ever SUP ride.  Looks like he's been doing it forevers.  In fact it was hard to believe he had never paddled before.  He swears it was his first go.  Then we have the almost professional quality Danger Boy.  He had actually been on it for a couple of days before Oscar got there.  He was rather ecstatic about the whole thing, as you can see.  We're not SUP devotees, but we could see the utility here on the lake.  A good way to get around and way back into some of the backwaters along the typically impenetrable weeds and hyacinths.  That also reminds us that we need to get a water camera to take back into some of those areas.  You can paddle so far into the trees and inlets that it looks like a National Geographic special.  One morning LoLa and the Professor paddled up to a Night Heron rookery, a large mangrove tree teeming with birds.  Not having a motor, you can get pretty close before they notice you.  No, we didn't see any crocodiles...

Meanwhile, we had a slight rain this morning with 5 miles visibility and cloudy skies.  Winds were onshore from the start by 4.3kts and the sea surface was sporting a light chop.  The air temp was 59.3° and the water was 63.7°, although Mike Inscore swears it's 64.  High tide is at 5:06am +4.6' and low tide will follow at 11:08am +2.1'.  We have a WSW swell out of 238° at 2.6' and the surf is a poor to worse 1' to 2'.  Maybe a little more bump mañana...
