Tell Me It's Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We know what you're thinking, "goblin shark," right?  Nope, it's a "Long-Nosed Chimaera."  It's got a whip-like tail and this cone-shaped nose that gives it the appearance of going a hell of a lot faster than it actually does.  Scientists believe these are actually quite common, but since they like to swim between 1,000 and 2,000 meters your chances of getting poked are pretty slim.  Unless, of course, it was an especially egregious wipeout.  All of that is good news!  The bad news is that their dorsal fins have a highly venomous spine!  So, next time you're trolling at 6,000 feet, be careful...

Cloudy, gray, with 6.8 miles visibility.  Almost looks like it could rain.  Winds were calm this morning and the sea was oily/glassy.  The air temperature was 57.3˚ and the water was 62.8˚, dropping a bit from yesterday's winds.  High tide was at 9:42am +5.7' and low tide will be at 5:03pm +-0.0'.  We have a west swell out of 262˚ at 2.6' and it's a fun 1' to 3' with pretty good shape.
