Twixt The Cup & The Lip Tuesday Surf & Cuture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Beyond the Golden Gate and in the lee of the Marin headlands the Rovens' family pondered the moment after spreading the ashes of Clara Rovens, Doug's mom.  A remarkable woman, the tributes were many and sincere.  Considering how folks move around today, it was incredible that Clara spent the span of her years in one city, San Francisco.  Classy, bright and unflappable, she fits our criteria for a great surf mom.  Our condolences to the Rovens' family...

A bright and chilly morning, visibility was 20+ miles, under a cloudless sky.  Winds were out of the NE at 4.1kts and the sea surface was smooth, with a bit of a roll.  The air temperature was 54.9˚ and the water was 65.1˚, feeling almost balmy in comparison.  High tide was at 9:26am +6.6' and low tide comes around at 4:39pm -0.8'.  We have a west swell out of 269˚ at 3.0', but it's getting a push from the southwest, so waves were in the 3' to 4' range with some solid outsides.  Need a walk on the beach?  The tide this afternoon will be perfect, that is until it gets dark at 4:56pm!  Okay, so walk fast...

Unfortunately, Redondo got spanked by Mira Costa this morning.  Going into the 5th heat 4 points separated the squads and then 'Costa hit the jets.  In heats 5, 6 and 7 they were 1,2,4 then 1,2,3 then 1,2,3 again.  Hard to beat that kind of depth.  Hey, next year...
