RAT Spelled Backwards Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo Beaches are closed.  Where are we going to go?  Vishnevsky the Wave Hunter says, "The beaches are closed because of tar, so let's go to Rat because Rat is t-a-r backwards!"  This is the kind of reasoning we appreciate...

Under the cover of "May Gray" we had 5 miles visibility.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was smooth, but not oily/glassy, like you might suppose.  The air temp was 59.3˚ and the water was 61.9˚.  High tide was at 6:54am +3.4' and low tide will follow at 12:31pm +1.3'.  We have a SSW swell out of 209˚ reading 3.9' at the buoy.  Not quite that big on the beach.  2' to 3', but a bit crashy and not too deluxe...

So, what's the big deal?  It looks like the same stuff that's on the beach all the time.  Maybe a little more, but it's even amazing someone noticed it...  Of course there are conspiracy theorists (among them the Professor) who are saying that the plates are shifting and the oil is an indication that there will be an earthquake.  Gee, predicting an earthquake in Southern California, that's new...

If there is a big deal it would be Happy Hour tomorrow at LoLa and the Professor's, to celebrate LoLa's retirement.  5:30pm on the dot!  There will be linguiça sandwiches, Portagee beans and a limited but interesting bar...  516 Paseo de las Estrellas, RB 90277.  If you're hopelessly lost, try 310-373-5138...  We have had a number of questions about what to bring.  The simple answer is, you don't have to bring anything.  However, if you are unhappy with that, you might bring an appetizer, dessert or gold bullion...  See you there...
