A Chopped Thursday On Rye Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Redondo Coach Duncan Avery surveying the playing field for the "Kickoff Classic."  It was windy, full of white caps and the usual El Porto sneakers on the outside.  The bad news:  The conditions sucked.   The good news:  It sucked equally for everyone.  Still after all the foam cleared Redondo had placed 9 surfers into round 2!  Action continues next week...

So, you've got a good idea of how things looked this morning.  Cloudy with 10 miles visibility and it almost looked like rain.  Winds were persistently onshore by 5.9kts and increased as the day rolled on.  The sea surface was rough with white caps and those occasional sneakers we mentioned.  Nothing like sitting in what you imagine to be the line-up, only to be rolled over by a set that breaks another 25 yards outside.   The air temp was 71.8º and the water was 73.6º.  High tide was at 10:37am +5.6' and low tide will follow at 5:31pm +0.5'.  We had what was advertised as a 3.3' swell out of the SW 219º, but it looked more like a 5' to 6' swell that was getting chattered to bits, with the odd three-footer...  If the wind stops things could look good mañana...

Two things:
            1.  Happy Hour - 5:30pm - Friday the 16th - The Mermaid (because Yoshi & LoLa say it's gonna be warm)
            2.  Birthday party for Danger Boy at the Fortress of Danger, Saturday Oct. 24th - Time TBA
