Let's Get On With Spring Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Come on you guys!  You know the rules "NO MASCOTAS!"  How many times do we have to tell you?

Since you are facing south when you look out to sea in El Salvador the sun rises to the left (#2) and sets on the right (#3).  We cannot accurately describe what this does to your sense of direction, balance and propriety...  Gave us the fantods...

Cloudy this morning and looked like the rain could start any time, but it didn't.  Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was smooth. The air temperature was 54.9, but the offshores and cloudy skies made it seem chillier.  The water was 59.5.  Low tide was at 6:41am +0.4' and high tide will be just in time for lunch at 12:49pm +3.6'.  We have a SSW swell out of 212º at 2' and it was just that and a bit bigger.  We almost didn't go out until Kawika Ching started suiting up.  "Where you going?" we asked.  "Hey, there are some little ones and I'm thinking I'll just make myself tiny and ride some of those tubes."  So how do you not join up and watch the show?  He was on a foamy SUP and got to the nose on nearly every wave!  Then Danny Connell and Shane Larned came out and they started shooting the pier on almost every wave just to make it interesting.  Fun and funny and a great way to enjoy the morning before the (reported) deluge!

#4 Capitán Donaldo at Miramar, showing the rival surfcamp how to ride "their" spot...  This is the point to the right of Chicken Gumbo's and the La Barra camp (of which we were representing.)  There were some rogue Frenchmen there this afternoon and the Capitán showed them how to ride deep on the reef.  At one point the Professor took off near this spot and suddenly got yanked out of the wave, apparently the work of some deus ex machina.  Actually, it turned out to be one of the Frenchies who had a 10' long leash that was trailing behind him.  When the Professor came windmilling by, he put his arm through the leash and just as he caught the wave, the leash went taut and pulled him out right through the middle of the wave.  As Danger Boy would say, "I don't know exactly what happened, but..."

Yes...  Happy hour will be at Samba this Friday, since the threat of rain has been reduced to single digit probability.  5:30 on the patio and attendance will be taken...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
