Toponymic Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

El Tunco means "the pig" in Spanish.  It gets it's name from the rock that looks passingly like the profile of a lunging porker.  It used to look more like a pig before the "nose" got knocked off a few years ago.  There's something about this outcropping that just begs you to get your camera out.  Then the light changes and it looks totally different or the tide rises and suddenly it's at the center of a mass of shooting spray and foam and you're back studying the whole show...  Looking docile and welcoming in #1...

A beautiful fall morning in the film capital of the world - Hermosa Beach!  Winds were offshore by 3.2kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was a crisp 50º and all the extras in "Veronica Mars:  Spring Break" were shivering in their trunks and bikinis.  The water is 66.2.  Low tide was early at 5:44am +3.4' and high tide was at 11:48am +4.5'.  There's a weak SSW swell out of 198º at 2.3' and it was 1' and poor...  As usual it's supposed to get better as the week unfolds...

Another tile (#2) from our dinner table at Roca Sunzal.  This is your typical depiction of a "woman with a church on her head".  What???

The Professor and Buck in their Halloween costumes (#3) as "bookends."  Taking minimalism to ridiculous ends once again...

This (#4) is in about the first third of this wave that Buck caught one morning at La Paz.  It was an easy two football fields long (maybe three) and it broke like this the entire way.  He would step on the gas and blow through a section (like he was doing at this particular moment) then he would fade and set up for the next run.  We kept watching him and wondering how far he would go.  When he finally pulled out, he turned around and couldn't see us.  He thought we might have all gone in.  It took him fifteen minutes to get back to where he started and then...  HE CAUGHT ANOTHER ONE!  We got 300 images back from the photographer and half of them were his two waves!

Get your woolies out and head for the patio at Samba this Friday at 5:30pm.  Is it possible that it will REALLY be dark???

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
