Mithraic Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Yes, Mithra, Persian god of light.  The Mithrans were an all male cult that flourished during the late Roman empire.  Quite popular at the time, many Christian traditions are linked with Mithraic traditions.  They died out because all male cults (that forbid sexual contact) tend to run out of followers.  Should we start a religion you can be sure that will NOT be one of our tenets...  These (#1) were NOT Mithraic followers as near as we could tell.  However since they were running around in Speedos and not wearing masks, we imagine their cult will soon run it's course...  They seemed like such nice folks...

Some fun waves today AND it was Ronnie Garcia's birthday!  To celebrate he was getting all the good lefts and making good use of the custom Barahona Titan model... Morning started out overcast with less than 10 miles visibility and winds out of the west variable between 2 and 3kts.  The sea surface was smooth to lightly textured.  The air temperature was 66.3 and the water was 68.2 at the buoy.  High tide was at 10:43am +4.3' and low tide was at 3:36pm +2.1'.  There was a SSW swell out of 198º at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' with some nice peaks as the tide came up.  Full moon tonight and conditions are predicted to be about the same as this morning...

In this sequence we have Anaconda Burke (#2) doing some wake-boarding on Lake Payette.  He was up for so long he started to wax thirsty, so his crew threw him a brew (#3).  In case you had any doubts, #4 shows him can-in-hand re-hydrating.  We must admit, this doesn't typically happen in the ocean...

In #5 we feature Raquel Cerqueira one of the new generation of surf mom's.  Here she lets Matty take her for a spin around the block.  The minimum driving age in Portugal is 5...

Over the years we have struggled to come up with a simple mnemonic to describe our foggy July's.  We have "May Gray", June Gloom" and "Fogust", but July didn't have anything catchy enough to stick.  But leave it to Tarsan!  He came up with "Fog In My Eye July."  A little cumbersome, but loads better than anything else we've come across.  Feel free to borrow it at will...
