The rubber band was patented in England on March 17, 1845, by Stephen Perry. Maybe that's all you need to know, maybe it isn't. But what you need to know is that the F. Bain Rubber Band Co. of Silverlake, California is no longer in business. A landmark for years we can only hope they'll bounce back, but of course that's a stretch. Hazy sun this morning with 7 miles visibility. Winds were light onshore and the sea surface was smooth. The air temperature was 63.9º and the water was 70.5º at checkout. One high tide today at 4:24pm +4.9'. Records will show it was a SSW swell out of 210º at 2.6', but if you were on the beach it was .5'.
Head Judge, Capt. Donald Souther, put the "Galactic Small Wave Championships" on hold until the surf was big enough to be small. The contestants were disappointed, but vowed to continue as soon as the surf cooperated. They are shown (#1) amidst their vows and have exhorted all to "Pray For Surf!"
