Here (#1) we have an example of a taking your family to work day.  The Professor took Evie Carlisle to the beach for a couple of lessons.  She caught on right away and by all accounts was having a great time.  Coming back on Thursday for some serious surfing...

Overcast with 7miles visibility.  Winds out of the SW by 1 to 3kts and the se surface was smooth.  The air was 61.8° and the water is 62.6° at the buoy, warmer in the surfline.  Low tide was at 8:34am +0.7' and high tide is at 3:40pm +4.4'.  It';s a SSW swell out of 194° at 2.3' and it was 2' to almost 3' and a bit crashy...

So the South Bay Dozen is at it again, benefiting the Jimmy Miller Foundation.  Gonna be on July 12.  Sign-ins at 7 and competitions start at 8.  Mike Murphy is always looking for volunteers so ring him up if you're interested!  Bring your own dory...

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report
