First Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

You know how you always have these images of surfers wearing trunks, naked to the waist and the sun glistening off of their tanned shoulders..  These are those same guys when the weather drops into the 50's.  The two guys in the berquas are especially sensitive to the cold.  You know the airfares to Hawaii and Mexico have dropped...

Hazy this morning, but not the socked in foggies that we had yesterday.  Visibility 3 miles and we're looking at a medium overcast.  The wind is offshore by 1.9kts and the sea surface is smooth but not quite glassy..  The air temp is 50.4℉ and the water is 56.3℉.  Low tide is at 6:35am +2.5' and high tide follows at 11:57am +4.0'.  So it's a high low and a low high.  The real low will be late in the afternoon, so if the wind kicks up any chance of getting some low tide zippers might evaporate.  The buoy is reading 2.6' on a swell that's almost straight out of the west (264 degrees, 270 is straight west.)  The waves are right around 2' with some thicker outsides.  Almost big enough to make it worthwhile.  As it stands, we'll wait...  Tomorrow if we have the same conditions at Ave. A, we'll give Hermosa a try.  Of course if we drive all the way to Hermosa, Brother's is right there on 11th St...

We announced some time ago that Savannah Paine, would be doing a set at the THINK Cafe in San Pedro on Saturday the 3rd of January (tomorrow night!)  It turns out that she'll actually be sitting in with the band for the entire evening, so she'll be part of the rotation.  The downbeat is at 7:30pm, so if you want to have dinner and then enjoy the show, we'd advise being early.  Boomfwappa told us the guest list is already full, so it might be a packed house!
