Thousand Oaks Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Who counted all those oaks in "Thousand Oaks" anyway?  Aw, we don't really care.  It could'a been "Thousands of Oaks" and that would'a been fine with us.  Meanwhile, the Professor was out at his former haunt, CSU Dominguez Hills and noticed this brand NEW sign!  He had quite the reputation for zipping around campus on his skateboard.  One of the president's (who shall remain nameless) told him that he had a notice from the chancellor's office to prohibit all skateboards from the campus sidewalks.  The Professor asked him if he was going to send out notification.  He said it was still on his desk and you know that's where it stayed until the Professor retired!  Yippee!

Some haziness out and about this morning.  We're calling visibility at 7 miles and it looks like it's going to clear fairly early.  Winds are out of the SW by 3.9kts and the sea surface was smooth and then a bit of light tack.  The air temp at 6am was 63.2° and the water was a pleasant 68.4°.  Low tide started off the day at 5:04am -1.4' and high tide will follow at 11:30am +4.8'.  The major high tide is this evening at 10:50pm and it's rising all the way to 6.6', so if you need a bit more water that's when you need to float your boat.  Our favorite buoy (#46221) is reading a swell out of 210° at 3.0'.  We'll go with that and call it 3' to 4'.  We saw Billy McIntosh out at Sappharua this morning and he was talking some great stories about some of his trips to Cabo.  His most unlikely roommate of all time?  Yep, Miloe!

It's summer and we repainted the ride to look more like a flying tiger than a shark.  We thought the red-star crank was a cool pre-commie addition.  This is what you do when you find two cans of "Chinese Army Green" in the garage.

Notes to the editor:

Hi Frank,

You must have brought me some good vibes.  I got a call late Tues. from a company that they needed a hand model for a shoot the next day.  I was replacing another guy who dropped out at the last minute.  Funny thing was, I was their original choice and somehow I got lost in the shuffle, then actually ended up back on the job!  We shot at the very top of Browns Canyon, high above Porter Ranch Hills.

Ah, the exciting life of a hand model!

Best regards,
Henry

(Yes!  We'd like to imagine all the best casting agents read the report.  They don't, but we can imagine...)
