Magnetic Bubble Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

In this morning's photo we have Carl Sagan (the cat, not the scientist) about to land on the Professor's head as he walks underneath the ladder to the solarium.  Carl is Gidget's cat and he learned how to run up the ladder.  He's got great technique going up - but going down is another matter.  In this case he decided that leaping on the Professor would be a lot faster than jumping to the fireplace mantle and then to the ground.  Both Carl and the Professor are doing fine - now...

Hazy sun this morning with 3 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 1.9kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 59.0° and the water is 61.7°.  Still not cold enough for booties, but getting close.  Low tide was at 8:42am +3.0' and high tide will be at 2:17pm +4.8'.  The buoy is reading a West swell out of 276° at 3.3'.  Now we don't want to contradict the buoy but there were some much larger waves than 3'.  We're calling it 3' to 5', with long walled up waves and some pretty critical drops.  Not great long boarding waves, but the shortboard guys were getting some corners.

Yesterday was an entirely different story though.  It was a couple of feet bigger and there was no guarantee that you were going to make even the waves that looked make-able.  Damian and One-Nut Mike were talking this morning about how they let a couple of good ones sneak through, because they realized too late that they would hold up.  On the other side of the rocks Danger Boy and the Professor sat right on the peak and picked off the outsides as they came through.  Danger Boy got the wave of the day on a perfect peak that was a couple of feet overhead.  He paddled, then looked, then paddled, then hesitated, then paddled again.  By now he's at the very top and it looks for all the world like he's going to get sucked over the falls.  But the wave is so thick, it holds up and he makes the drop going about mach 3.  He grinned for so long he had seaweed in his teeth...

Friends and fam,

I work as an educational therapist (et) a couple days a week.
ETs work in a one on one setting with kids with learning disabilities or other learning problems (attention deficit disorders, etc.). Most kids referred to me come my way via child psychologist or neuro-psychs  who evaluate kids, then refer them as needed to get them the help they need.

ET's typically hold a master's degree in an education related field, as well as additional training/coursework in human learning, reading disabilities, assessment skills and interpretation, counseling, and special education among other things.  People often ask, what differentiates a tutor from an ET.  A tutor typically is a master of a given subject or subjects.  An ET's expertise comes in understanding how a child with learning hindrance learns best, and helping them to maximize their strengths, to make school a bit easier, and less stressful.  This work is often prescribed for elementary aged kids with reading disabilities, and middle or high school kids with organizational and attention problems.

I have been fairly busy with life, and never had really bothered to advertise...novel concept that advertising thing.  Anyhow, if you know of any families who may be looking for someone to help make school easier on their son or daughter, please do feel welcome to send my contact info their way (phone or email is fine).  I probably have room for 1-3 new kids if schedules permit.

Thanks all, hope you're well.
(Do you realize how we might have turned out if Mike had been there for us!   Ed.)

Finally, we were talking with Denny Hengen last night and he asked us if we could parse out the first name of this student at his school.  How would you pronounce this name:  Li-a.  None of us came close.  It's pronounced:  Lay-dash-uh.  Her mom explained, "The dash is NOT silent."  This reminded us that we need to print new cards...  Fra3nk (the 3 is silent.)

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
