Fuss Budget Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Our first pic is a lucky shot that we just happened to squeeze off while checking out the end of the breakwall this morning.  The Number 3 pole is well over 20' tall and the spray isn't having any problem blasting over it.  A lot of surge over and around the Breakwall.  Meanwhile, the inside of the Horseshoe Pier was calming things down and breaking from 3' to 5'.  We saw some nice little lefts and rights breaking from the corners to the middle.  We also didn't see any signs that said you couldn't surf inside the Horseshoe.  We don't know if they've changed their minds about that or if someone stole the signs.  We did see signage that warned about clamoring about on the rocks though.  So... we figured you just walk in from the south side and everything is fine...

We're under cloudy, rainy skies this morning, with rain light to heavy at times.  Visibility is 5 to 15 miles depending on the clouds and wind.  Winds are erratic, predominantly out of the WSW by 9.7kts.  The sea surface is bumped but not white capping yet.  The air temp at checkout time was 49.3°, with the wind making it feel a tad cooler.  The water is 58.5° and the wind, rain and clouds don't help with that either.  Low tide is at 8:27am +1.8' and high tide will follow at 1:34pm +2.6'.  Coming out of the WSW 228° we currently have a 10.5' swell that's looking a tad ragged.  The waves are in the 6' to 10' range.  A good thing about this particular swell is that it seems to be dredging some nice channels (lots of brown water out there.)  We've needed that in the worst way, since lately the beaches have all been super lined up.  This should create some holes all along the surfline and maybe readjust some of the sand bars.

Finally, we discovered that after his short, but successful movie career, the Tin Man got a job working for one of the restaurants on the Redondo Pier.  He was busy getting ready for the breakfast crew and so he posed and said he'd chat with us later...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
