The Marcy Stink-Eye Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here we have Marcy Holmes out of the water in her work habitat, giving us the stink-eye for taking her pic and not jumping into the chair like she asked.  You might have caught her a couple of weeks ago ripping Topaz on one of those high tide days when the tidal push was creating some wicked little zippers.  She and Kevin split a peak that was probably the wave of the day!  Oh, yeah, and if you need a great haircut for the right price - you need to see Marcy!

Our second shot from Larrr, suggests that the grayness of the morning and the guys looking were more interesting than the surf.  And it is a similar view that greets us this morning.  Maybe it's a bit drizzlier, bordering on outright rain, but still gray and about a mile visibility.  Winds are onshore by 3.8kts gusting higher as the morning skids along.  Sea surface is sporting a heavy tack.  The air temperature is a cool 63.2° and the water is oddly checking in at 67.3°?  Doesn't feel like that in the surfline, does it...  High tide is at 7:38am +5.1' and low tide will be at 1:21pm +1.4'.  Tidal swings are getting greater as we head toward the end of the week (up to 7.4' on Friday.)  The 46221 buoy is reading a swell out of 234°SW at 2.6'.  We're calling it 1' to 2' crashing on the shore.  As the morning has slipped by the swell continues to increase.  Currently it's 3.3', which is up a foot in the last 4 hours.  Possibility for a few waves tomorrow morning seems to be getting better if the swell size and direction holds.  Pray for surf...

Sounds like a lot of Ballona to us...  or a lot of something...
Bacteria Warning: A sewage spill late last week released about 500,000 gallons of raw sewage, forcing the closure of a 2-mile stretch of beach near Marina Del Rey, just south of Ballona Creek. LA Health Officials have lifted the advisory, but... In any event, you can check the latest beach advisories and closures at the LA County Dept. Of Public Health's website.

So we were looking at this RUHS volleyball shot that Lethal Keithal sent us and we thought it nice, though apparently unremarkable.  Then we noticed that this young lady's hips were half way up the net!  We saw Chet Zahn (the patriarch of the RUHS Volleyball Zahn's) and asked him how high his boys jump.  He said they all can get their hips to the top of the net!  (Even the runt, who is only 6'7".)  Can you imagine blocking that?  Checkers, anyone?

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
