Fartbarf Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We have always been fascinated with the names of bands.  Maybe it started with the Meat Puppets or The Vapors, it doesn't matter.  So when we saw that Fartbarf was going to be at Brixton, we could hardly contain ourselves.  Can you imagine how difficult it was to come up with that name?  You gotta imagine that half the band was holding out for Barfart.  But wait, there could be some confusion, like BAR-fart could be flatulence experienced at your local pub.  On the other hand Barf-ART could be something related to a Technicolor yawn on canvas.  So Fartbarf it is!  Wait a minute...  That means "Barfart" is still available!  "Hey guys, we're putting the band back together..."

Another warm, beautiful morning with some high cirrus clouds streaking across the sky.  15 miles visibility, with some light haze on the beach.  Winds were lightly offshore at 1.1kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temp was a toasty 65.3° and the water was a temperate 65.1°.  High tide was at 10:21am +5.7' and low tide will follow at 5:24pm +0.4'.  The buoy tells us that even though there's a 8.9' swell running from the north at 305°, we're only getting a 2.6' dribble out of the WSW at 2.6'.  Hermosa had some odd corners this morning at a workable 3'.  Watch the tides and wind and you could score any time today...

Remember Keegan's tonight at 7pm and the 1321 Taproom Bistro for a warm-up at 5:15pm.  It's the Pheasant Plucker's for your listening enjoyment.  It's just so much more fun when you dance...  NO... we're laughing with you...

So, this is going to be the last regular S&CR for the next two weeks.  We're going to head down to El Salvador to do a little exploration!  Under the command of Don José "Ché" Barahona, we have plans to visit the lake region, hike a volcano, sneak into Guatemala and watch the sun come up over Tikal and...  wait...  did we mention surf?  Yeah, that too!  If we can find a stray work station, we'll send our coordinates!

Finally, we found this seaweed holdfast on the beach at Topaz.  Just the kind of thing that would make a good dried arrangement, if it weren't for the rather stimulating scent...   ✠
