Three Stage Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Photo #1 today features Ailidh Sheldon skiing out into calm water after a scoring wave in the Kick Off Classic event at Torrance Beach.  So how do you pronounce "Ailidh?"  Well, it's like Haley without the "H."  Photos 2 & 3 feature Sara Curren (Girl's Long Board) on a nice outside wrap around.  She did a right go left and got some major points on the wave.  In a super tough final she ended up getting a fifth and we're pretty sure she'll be doing quite a bit better as the season unfolds.  If that wasn't enough, she also got a 6th in Girls Short Board!  Redondo finalists were:
6th:  Girl's Shortboard         Sara Curren
5th:  Girl's Shortboard         Katie Parkinson
5th:  Girl's Longboard          Sara Curren
5th:  Boys Longboard           David Fillman
4th:  Boys Bodyboard          Conor Beatty
3rd:  Girl's Longboard          Elle Enscore
1st:  Boys Longboard           Conor Beatty

The Kick-Off Classic for Boys Shortboard will be on the 22nd of October on the south side of the Hermosa Pier.  Don't miss it if you want to see some fantastic prep surfing!

Another smoker this morning as the sun boiled into the sky and gave us a 68.1° air temp at 6:30am.  Visibility was 15 miles with some inherent marine haze, but skies were clear.  Winds were offshore by 1.3kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The water was 64.4° and the red tide had cleared up quite a bit.  High tide was at 9:56am +5.8' and low tide will follow at 4:47pm +0.3'.  Even though things were lining  up with the swell window we had a 2.6' wave height out of the west at 261°  Hermosa was crashy, but there were waves at Torrance in the 3' range.  Just being out in the warm weather was nice!

From Edrina...
An apparently inebriated cowboy lay sprawled across three entire seats in a posh Dallas theater.
When the Usher came by and noticed him, he whispered to the cowboy,
"Sorry, Sir, but you're only allowed one seat."
The cowboy just groaned but didn't even budge.
The Usher became more impatient and insistent: "Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."
Once again, the cowboy just groaned. The Usher marched briskly back up the aisle, and in a moment he returned with the manager.
Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move the cowboy, but without success. He just laid there in a dazed stupor.
Finally they had enough and summoned the police.
A Texas Ranger arrived, surveyed the situation briefly, then asked, "Alright buddy what's your name?"
"Sam," the cowboy moaned."Where y'all from, Sam?" asked the Ranger.
With terrible pain in his voice, a grim expression and without moving a muscle, Sam said, "The Balcony."

Remember the Pheasant Plucker's at Keegan's on Friday night at 7pm.  Happy hour will be at the 1321 Sartori Pub at 1321 Sartori in Old Torrance around 5:15pm (it fills up fast!)
