Welterweight Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Purple sky morning at Hermosa Pier...  The last two weeks have been like:  No waves.  No waves.  No waves...  WAVES!  Yay!!

Cloudy skies with more than a hint of haziness.  2 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 2.5kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 52.2˚ and the water was 59.7˚.  Low tide was late at 10:12am +1.3' and high tide is at 3:56pm +3.2'.  We have a strong west swell out of 261˚ at 4.3' and it's 3' to 4' at the better spots.

Okay, so you can go to Chadwick and get your basic preppy education, but if you want to major in surf, then maybe it's Redondo where you should do your matriculating.  Props to Chadwick in their contest against RUHS this morning.  It's always tough for a small school to do well against some of the bigger publics, but they had some good surfers and made an admirable showing.  Redondo prevailed 106 to 37 showing the best side of public education...  Some standouts:
Men's Short:  Kyle Beatty 1st Heat #1(Kyle just got back from Hawaii where he surfed big Sunset and Pipe over the break)  Kenny Okuda 1st Heat #2(Kenny barely surfed over the break and still came in first)  Jack Langdon 1st Heat #7 (Jack's first first in dual competition!)  Tate Curran 1st Heat #8 (Still waiting for Sapphire to break.)  Girl's Shortboard:  Emma Waldinger 1st.  Men's Longboard:  Tate Curran 1st (The only double today!)  Bodyboard:  Trevor LaShure 1st.  Girl's Longboard:  Paige Sullivan.  Congrats to all the Seahawks on their great performance!

So just in case you think all the Seahawks are charging it, we have Taylor, an upside down Sophie (trying to catch a few extra morning Z's), Stephanie and Gabby supporting the team from their perch on the sand...  Somebody's got to do it...
