Forgotten Island Of Santosha Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Some samplings of "tuna" this morning, from Rogelio, reminded us of this pic.  The buds of the nopalé cactus are called "tuna" in Spanish.  The blades of the cacti are great in omelets and are a legendary cholesterol lowering food.  In an effort to kill several birds with one stone, Barry Santos told us that he mixed a nopalé (to lower cholesterol), a carrot (to improve his vision), an oyster (for virility) and a half a cup+ of rum (to lower his blood pressure) and put them in the blender on "perfect storm."  The results were impressive to say the least.  His cholesterol went down, his blood pressure went down, his virility went up and he could now see TWO of everything!  Amazing...

Overcast this morning, waiting for the sun and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were calm at checkout and the sea surface was smooth with just a touch of oiliness.  The air temp was 69.3˚ and the water is 67.5˚ at the buoy and near 70˚ in the surfline.  Low tide was at 6:49am +1.1' and high tide will follow at 1:34pm +4.5'.  We had a west swell out of 255˚ at 3.3' and that's just about how big it was with some sturdy outsides and nice peaks on the rising tide...

Lost Boy Sighting:  At Hermosa Pier, Paul "Toughy" Brede.  Out with daughter Nohea and son Kalihi, while the Coach did Dad duty on the swings and walked the pier.  We saw him catch a left reminiscent of Ala Moana and then a right a couple of minutes later that had him cross-stepping to the nose for a perch and a pose.  Lookin' good!

Us:  "Should we put the board on top of the taxi?"
Taxi driver:  "I'll just put it in the window."
U:  "Okay...  You sure about that?"
T:  "I do it all the time."
(We didn't expect it to be the front window!  If he had swiped a telephone pole with it, we would have all been decapitated...  Ed.)

Some confusion initially about tonight's happy hour location.  It's going to be El Torito on the RB Pier at 5:30.  You can have a cocktail AND check out Sapphire...
